Cape Girardeau resident Carol Steiner is trying to do her part to reach out to senior citizens in the area. Since 2008 Steiner has been volunteering for the Cape Girardeau Senior Center in Cape Girardeau. Steiner currently calls five homebound patients for the center to make sure they have everything they need and are still in good health. If Steiner doesn't hear back from one of the patients for a couple of days, she calls the senior center to notify them. Steiner volunteers from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday to Friday. She takes her "job" seriously. Steiner said she volunteered 44 hours in June and would love to add more. Her goal is to add more people to the list of people she calls every day, because she feels that her work is never done.
