Pillowcase partnership helps pediatric patients feel more at ease
Members of Procter and Gamble's WAVE group (Women Achieving Excellence) recently made 65 pillowcases for pediatric patients at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Thrivent community service team director, Joyce Clark, obtained a $300 grant for the supplies and over 30 women, equipped with sewing machines spent an evening sewing the pillowcases, which patients brought home.
The fabric was chosen to put young patients' minds at ease during their hospital stay. Sponge Bob, Dora the Explorer, John Deere, High School Musical and the Little Mermaid were among those chosen. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital fabric, with the children's hospital design, was also used and part of the purchase price of the fabric benefitted St. Jude.
Polly Holten WAVE steering committee member said that community service projects are planned for the future.
