Southeast Missouri Hospital benefits from volunteers

Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary volunteers greet visitors and patients at hospital waiting rooms, lobbies and front desks; give directions to outpatients and visitors, operate the gift shop and deliver flowers, newspapers and email wishes to patient rooms.

Volunteer labor hours recorded in a year help convey their valuable service and savings to the hospital. In 2008 more than 59,000 volunteer hours were contributed by Auxiliary members.

At the Auxiliary's annual meeting and luncheon Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary vice president Jeanette Patterson, left, presented a "check" representing the more than $1.07 million worth of volunteer labor provided by Auxiliary members in 2008 to hospital vice president Pat Bira.
