Charlene Linn of Cape Girardeau has endowed two scholarships through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

She has established the Robert Craig Jones Memorial Scholarship in memory of her son and the Dr. Frank J. Linn Education Scholarship in honor of her husband.

Charlene Linn provided a $10,000 gift, with $5,000 going to establish each of the scholarships. Each will be matched with an additional $5,000 through a university matching gift program, part of the Honoring Tradition -- Inspiring Success Comprehensive Campaign that allows donors to make a minimum commitment of $5,000 to a maximum commitment of $10,000 through donation or pledge by March 1, that will qualify for a $1-for-$1 match.

The renewable Jones scholarship will be awarded to a Southeast student majoring in criminal justice with a minimum 3.0 grade-point average. Preference will be given to a nontraditional student. The Department of Criminal Justice will select the recipient. Jones entered Southeast in his 30s after having served as a police chief and deputy sheriff. Jones majored in criminal justice and graduated in 1989. He retired from the Vienna Correctional Institution in 2012 and died in April of that year.

The Linn scholarship will be awarded to a Southeast student majoring in elementary or early childhood education with a minimum 3.0 grade-point average. The recipient of the renewable scholarship will be selected by the College of Education Scholarship Committee. Dr. Linn was a member of the education faculty at Southeast Missouri State University where he taught a variety of graduate courses in what is now the Department of Educational Leadership. He retired from Southeast in 1995.
