The Old Town Cape Dr. Steven J. Hoffman Historic Preservation Scholarship has been established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. Old Town Cape made a $6,000 gift from funds donated to its Scholarship Garden to establish the award. The gift was matched with an additional $6,000 through a university matching gift program, Honoring Tradition -- Inspiring Success Comprehensive Campaign.
The renewable scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled at Southeast with first preference given to a student with a major or minor in historic preservation with a demonstrated interest and passion for historic preservation based on economic revitalization. Second preference will be given to a student with a major or minor in historic preservation. Third preference will go to a student with a major in the history department. Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average. The Department of History will select the recipient.
Emanuel church sets Puchbauer scholarship
The Emanuel United Church of Christ Margaret Puchbauer Scholarship has been established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. The scholarship honors its namesake, Margaret Puchbauer, a lifelong church member who recently retired after serving as church secretary for the last 43 years. Emanuel United Church of Christ of Jackson, Mo., made a $10,000 gift to establish the scholarship. The gift will be matched with an additional $10,000 through a University matching gift program, Honoring Tradition -- Inspiring Success Comprehensive Campaign.
The renewable scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student enrolled at Southeast with a minimum 3.0 grade-point average. First preference will be given to a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ. Second preference will be given to a member of any United Church of Christ church in Cape Girardeau County, and third preference will go to any Jackson resident. The University Scholarship Committee in consultation with Emanual United Church of Christ will select the recipient.
Delta Chi Galbreth scholarship established
The Delta Chi Galbreth Leadership Scholarship has been established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. Brad DePriest of St. Louis, Dr. Bruce Skinner and Tom Tipton, both of Cape Girardeau, and Steve Schneider of Jackson coordinated funding to establish the scholarship.
The recipient of the renewable scholarship will be a student enrolled at Southeast who is an associate or initiated brother of the Delta Chi Fraternity. The recipient must have a minimum 2.65 grade-point average, have financial need as verified by the FAFSA, and be involved in at least one other on-campus organization. The recipient must be a full-time student who is an active, dues-paying member, have all fraternal debts paid in full and be in good standing with the chapter. Preference will be given to brothers who are serving or recently served as the associate member counselor or rush/recruitment chair and have completed at least one recruitment/rush period or led at least one associate class through the new member educational process. All eligible recipients must be in good standing with the university. The scholarship is named for Ray Galbreth, who established the fraternity at Southeast.
