More than 45,000 cans were donated at the annual Cans Film Festival Dec. 1 at Cape West 14 Cine. The cans are being sorted by the Girl Scouts and will be donated to the Salvation Army for its holiday programs for those in need.
Slumberland donates to Making Homes project
On Dec. 10, Slumberland donated 20 mattress and box spring sets, frames, sheets and homemade quilts, and distributed them to local families in need for its Make a Home for the Holidays drive. Love INC and other organizations helped identify recipients, and the Cape Girardeau West Rotary Club helped with deliveries. The Making Homes for the Holidays program began in 1993. Since then, Slumberland has donated more than 20,000 new mattresses and box springs to deserving families.
Jackson sports raise money for cancer program
Jackson High School and Southeast SportsCare raised more than $3,600 for the "Champions Against Cancer Week." The week of Sept. 14 through Sept. 22, Jackson High School fall sports programs sold T-shirts and did other fundraisers to donate over $1,800 to the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation for cancer programs. Proceeds also went toward funding fall sports programs.
Notre Dame holds annual toy drive
Students and faculty at Notre Dame Regional High School collected more than 1,100 toys for their annual toy drive. The items will be donated to Jaycee's Toybox and Whole Kids Outreach.
Charter donates $4,000 to Toybox
Charter Communications employees from Cape Girardeau and Sikeston, Mo. present a $4,000 corporate donation to the Jaycee Toybox project.
