Plaza Tire donates to soccer league

Plaza Tire Service recently helped donate $1,656 in both funds and equipment to the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation's Soccer League. The funds will be used to help provide uniforms, balls and other equipment. The donation also included 200 soccer balls to be given to local families and Franklin Elementary School. Plaza Tire Service partnered with the Michelin Soccer Program to generate donations to local soccer organizations through their Michelin tire sales. The soccer leagues were sent certificates for a free soccer ball at Plaza Tire Service during a 30-day promotional period. Michelin donated $2 for each Michelin tire sold at Plaza Tire Service stores during a 60-day rebate promotion. Four Plaza Tire locations in Cape Girardeau and Scott City participated in the program.

Golf ball drop raises money for cancer patients

The Southeast Health Auxiliary and Foundation raised more than $13,650 for cancer patients at the, "Just Drop It 'Fore' a Cause." A total of 1,500 golf balls rained down from a helicopter over a specially made green at Bent Creek Golf Course in Jackson. Balls were numbered and dropped over the designated hole in view of attendees. Cash prizes were awarded for balls that landed closest to a pin.

Gala raises money for American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society "Cure for Cape" gala raised $146,374. Saint Francis Medical Center was the event's presenting sponsor. The total funds raised are a 36 percent increase from last year's fundraiser and more than double the funds raised two years ago. The funds raised from the gala directly support the American Cancer Society.
