Old McKendree Chapel will hold its annual service at 3 p.m. today with traditional music and Frank Nickell, retired Southeast Missouri State University history professor, as guest speaker. The service will be outside, weather permitting; attendees should bring seating. Because a bridge is out on Old Orchard Road, attendees should travel via East Main Street in Jackson.
The monthly Healthy Bites luncheon, to be held 12:10 to 12:40 p.m. Thursday, will explain the connection between oral health and systemic disease. Speaker will be dentist Dr. Jim Fox. Camp SEMO Wappapello will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The camp serves area youth with camps, retreats, outdoor worship, recreation, picnics, fishing and relaxation. Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills, 5665 County Road 635 in Cape Girardeau, will host a fall festival dinner from 1 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The all-you-can-eat menu will include chicken and dumplings, kettle-cooked beef, green beans, slaw, homemade bread, beverages and dessert. The cost is $9 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 through 12. Carryouts will be available. Grace Lutheran Church in Uniontown, Missouri, will host a whole-hog pork sausage supper beginning at 3 p.m. Oct. 4 in the church fellowship hall. The menu will include pork sausage, parsley potatoes, green beans, applesauce, coffee cake and beverages. The cost of the meal is $9 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 through 12. Carryouts will be available, as will be country store items. Proceeds will benefit the church's heating and air conditioning fund.

Volunteers are sought for the area Messiah Choir, with rehearsals beginning Oct. 12. Rehearsals will take place the second and fourth Mondays of the month from October through December and Jan. 4 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 100 N. Frederick St, in Cape Girardeau. All are welcome, and no experience is necessary. The Messiah concerts will be Jan. 10 and 17.

A special Mass for medical personnel will be held at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 13 at Cathedral of St. Mary of the Annunciation, 615 William St. in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. James V. Johnston Jr., bishop of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, will celebrate the Mass, which will be followed by a reception in the school gymnasium with a discussion about the formation of local guild of the Catholic Medical Association. Members of the medical profession are encouraged to attend the service, called a "white mass" because of white laboratory coats commonly worn by health-care personnel. The annual Schweer family reunion for the descendants of George Albert and Emma Marie Friedrich Schweer will be Oct. 17 at St. John's United Church of Christ near Fruitland. A noon potluck dinner is planned, and participants are asked to bring a covered dish, table service and lawn chairs. Proceeds from a collection will be donated to the church.
The Immanuel Lutheran Dinner Auction, sponsored by the Immanuel Lutheran Youth and School in Perryville, Missouri, will be Oct. 17 at the American Legion Hall in Perryville. During October, Arena Golf, 2901 Hawthorne Road in Cape Girardeau, will donate $3 to Dig for Life with the purchase of a large or extra-large bucket of golf balls. Patrons also will receive a small bucket of balls for use on the driving range.
A people and dog walk is planned from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 10 to help commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. There is no cost; with a $5 donation a participant receives a pink bandanna. A portion of putt-putt and driving-range fees will be donated to Dig for Life from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 10 at Arena Golf.
The Cape Girardeau Public Library will host musician Jim Gill for a family concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 23. Gill's concerts are active singalong and clap-along events for young children, filled with songs and stories from his award-winning recordings and books for children.
A car, truck and motorcycle show will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 24 at Lawless Harley Davidson, 2011 E. Outer Road in Scott City to benefit Pink Up.
