Church to host mother-daughter duo

Trinity Assembly of God in Olive Branch, Illinois, will host a mother-daughter musical duo at 7 p.m. Friday at church on Illinois Route 3 in Olive Branch. Kathy Crabb Hannah is author of the book "Stronger," and her daughter Terah Crabb Penhollow is a Grammy-nominated singer who has won several Dove awards. They both were members of the southern gospel group The Crabb Family, which had had 16 No. 1 songs on the national radio charts. The event is free and open to the public. Bluegrass groups to perform in Marble Hill

Five area bluegrass groups will perform from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Mayfield Cultural Center, which is adjacent to the Bollinger County Museum of Natural History in Marble Hill. The event is a fundraiser for the center. The schedule is as follows:

  • 2 p.m., Whitewater Bluegrass Band
  • 3 p.m., Gipson Family
  • 4 p.m., Leevon DeCourley and Dalton Harper
  • 5 p.m., onstage jam and supper break
  • 6 p.m., Hovis Brothers
  • 7 p.m., Janie Brown and the Chestnut Mountain Gang.

Admission is free for those older than 65 or younger than 13, $10 for adults and $5 for those ages 13 to 18. More information is available by calling (573) 866-3209.

Nature Center festival Saturday

The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will host a fall festival from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the center, 2302 County Park Drive in Cape Girardeau, All ages are welcome, and registration isn't required. Featured will be turkey vulture presentations at 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. as well as naturalist-led hikes, bonfire, snacks and crafts. More information is available by calling (573) 290-5218.

Event set to aid girl with diabetes

A fundraiser is scheduled Oct. 24 to raise funds for P.A.W.S. for Belle, an organization established to raise money to purchase a diabetic alert dog for Belle Enos, a Benton, Missouri, girl diagnosed with Type I diabetes. The dinner, auction and raffle will be held at 5 p.m. at St. Lawrence Parish Center in New Hamburg, Missouri. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for those ages 5 and younger. Cooking class to feature pumpkins

A cooking class featuring pumpkin recipes will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at HealthPoint in Cape Girardeau. The class is led by Raina Childers, HealthPoint Nutritional Services coordinator. Nature Center to host women's campout

The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will host a women's overnight tent campout from noon Oct. 24 to 3 p.m. Oct. 25. Transportation will be provided from the center, 2302 County Park Drive in Cape Girardeau, to the Castor River Conservation Area in Bollinger County. Registration is required, and girls ages 12 to 17 also are welcome if accompanied by an adult woman. Activities will include building a fire, cooking outdoors, canoeing and fishing. In the event of inclement weather, campers will move to a shelter. More information is available by calling (573) 290-5218.

Churches to join for Reformation service

Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna, Missouri, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, Missouri, will commemorate the Reformation with a joint service at 9 a.m. Oct. 25 at Trinity. A joint Bible study will take place at 8 a.m. in the Trinity school gymnasium.
