5K walk and run to benefit Scott Gibbs
The Strides for Scott five-kilometer walk and run will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Jackson City Park, Pavilion 5. The event is a benefit for the ALS Association and to honor neurosurgeon Dr. Scott Gibbs, who is battling ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease. Entry fee is $25 in advance or $30 on race day. Scouting For Food

Run For God mini-summit
The Run for God mini-summit will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at LaCroix United Methodist Church, 3102 Lexington Ave. The summit will feature new Run For God training challenges and information regarding the partnership with Amen Center and LOVE Inc. Metabolic, bariatric surgery information session
An introduction to metabolic and bariatric surgery options will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Saint Francis Medical Center's Conference Center. Bariatric and general surgeon Ryan LeGrand will provide an overview of the weight loss surgery program, which can provide new possibilities for people struggling with ongoing weight problems.
