The 25th anniversary of the ordination of the Rev. James V. Johnston Jr., bishop of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, will be celebrated with a Mass at 7 p.m. June 8 at St. Mary of the Annuncation Cathedral in Cape Girardeau. A reception will follow the Mass.

Jaycees to host rock, paper, scissors tourney

The Oran Jaycees will host a tournament with the game rock, paper, scissors to raise money for Access Day at the Missouri State Fair, which gives people with physical and mental disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the fair. The single-elimination tournament will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Oran Jaycee Hall, 200 N. Haw St.; there is a $2 entry fee. All ages are welcome. Disc golf tournament set June 27

The second annual Dominic Hooper Memorial Scholarship Disc Golf Tournament will be June 27 at Scott City Park. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Horseshoe Pavilion; cost is $30 per person and participants must bring their your own discs. First General Baptist to host Bible school

First General Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau, 1812 Cape LaCroix Road, will host vacation Bible school from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 15 through 19. Pet food bank established

In conjunction with SEMO Food Bank,a pet food bank called Howie's Harvist has been established. Busch Pet Products in Cape Girardeau is offering discounts on food purchased at the store that is earmarked for Howie's Harvest. Outside donations of other dog and cat foods are not accepted. Children's superhero camps to be held

HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson and Cape Girardeau will hold several day camps in June and July. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The camps, for children ages 5 to 12, will have a range of physical activities, projects and foods based on superheroes. Pre-registration is required. Cancer support group to focus on nutrition

The Journeys Cancer Support Group will focus on nutrition during and after treatment when it meets from 5 to 6 p.m. June 9at Southeast Cancer Center. Cancer Center clinical dietitian Tricia Friess will present the program; light refreshments will be served.The free program is open to people with cancer and caregivers. Health-care camp for high schoolers

High school students will learn about careers in health care at SoutheastHEALTH's health professionals camp, to be held June 14 to 16 at the SoutheastHEALTH College of Nursing and Health Sciences and various clinical sites, including Southeast Hospital. Campers will shadow staff in patient care areas, earn CPR certification, learn to use a stethoscope and take blood pressures, and talk college faculty and graduates. Campers will have an opportunity to learn about specialty areas such as pediatrics, surgery, intensive care, labor and delivery, emergency services and radiology. It is open to boys and girls. Tuition includes all meals and two nights lodging in a Southeast Missouri State University residence hall. More information is available by calling 573-334-6825.

Cooking class to feature summer recipes

The healthy cooking class at HealthPoint--Cape will feature summer recipes. Raina Childers, HealthPoint Nutritional Services coordinator Raina Childers, a registered dietitian, will direct the class, is scheduled from 6 to 7:15 p.m. June 15. Cost is $3 for HealthPoint members; $5 for non-members. Registration is available at SEhealth.org/HealthyCooking or by calling 573-986-4440.
