HealthPoint to hold Independence Day 5K

Southeast HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson will host the 2015 Independence Day 5K at 7:04 a.m. July 4. The race will begin and end at HealthPoint. Events will include a 5K walk and 5K run. Red Cross luncheon set June 25

The American Red Cross 2015 Everyday Heroes Everyday Heroes luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 25 at Isle Casino Cape Girardeau. Event proceeds benefit American Red Cross disaster relief in Southeast Missouri. Cost is $300 for a table of eight; individual tickets are $45. Gov. Jackson to be discussed

The life of Missouri Gov. Clayborn Fox Jackson will be discussed at 2 p.m. June 24 at Oscar Hirsch Room of the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Clarence "Dub" Suedekum will speak on the governor, who struggled to have the state to secede from the Union during the Civil War,

Lung-cancer screening scheduled

Saint Francis Medical Center will offer free lung-cancer screenings on Thursday for people ages 50 through 74 who are heavy smokers, former smokers or otherwise at risk. Low-radiation CT scan technology will be used, and those screened will be notified of results within one week. No preparation is required; patients must be preregistered. Heart and health screenings June 17

Saint Francis Medical Center offers heart and health screenings the third Wednesday of each month and will take place from 7 to 10 a.m. June 17. The heart screening, lipid profile plus glucose is $29 and includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, cardio risk ratio plus glucose for diabetes. The health screening includes free blood-pressure screening; glucose screening, $6; and women's osteoporosis screening; $25. The tests take place in the Health and Wellness Center, Entrance 8. Shoe Roads Production auxiliary shoe sale

Shoes and accessories will be offered for sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 19 at the Saint Francis Hospital Franciscan Room, Entrance 8. Offered are shoes, boots and sandals, Vera Bradley products and hand-painted shoes with team logos. Donations of used shoes will be accepted for the Shoeman Water Project.
