Silver Haired Legislature
elects officers
Southeast Missouri Silver Haired Legislature delegates, meeting June 3, elected officers: Connie Larrew of Poplar Bluff, chair; Ray Freeman of Doniphan, vice chair; and Doug Austin of Cape Girardeau, recording secretary. Missouri's Silver Haired Legislature was founded in 1973, the first such organization in the nation. It is composed of 15 volunteers from each of the 10 statewide Area Agencies on Aging. The 150, elected by their peers, identify and advocate for issues critical to older Missourians. More information is available by emailing ldaustin1@charter.net.
A Joseph Vick Family of America conference will be held June 26 through 28 at the Holiday Inn Express in Cape Girardeau. The event, which is open to the public, will include a historical lecture by Frank Nickell, a retired history professor. The conference also includes sessions about genealogy tips and updates; a bus tour of historic places and Vick sites; and a DNA presentation. Registration for the conference is 4 p.m. June 26.
