Southeast Pediatrics to host children's event

Southeast Pediatrics will host a children's event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The event, called "Super Kids," is open to children ages 4 through 10 and includes the following activities:

  • Learning the importance of outdoor activity without sunburn and bug bites.
  • Learning about the sugar content of beverages
  • Fitness demonstrations and activities.
  • Heathy eating.

The first 200 participants will receive $10 Academy Sports gift cards for completing all activities. Parents and children also may visit with staff of Southeast Pediatrics, which includes Greg Cugini, Paul Leland, Kali Francis, Chelsea Grigery and Lindsay R. McVey. Perryville backpack event scheduled

The Board of Evangelism at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School in Perryville, Missouri, again will sponsor a community back-to-school fair with the goal of providing nearly 300 poverty-level students in Perry County with school supplies, personal hygiene items, haircuts, shoe gift certificates, health checks and backpacks. The event will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the gym of Immanuel Lutheran School, Perryville. About 30 volunteers will be needed that day; volunteers also will be needed to fill packs before the event. Jackson Senior Center sets open house

The Jackson Senior Center, 2690 Travelers Way in Jackson, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Country Kickers will perform, and cake and ice cream will be served. More information is available by calling 573-335-1165.

Quilt, craft show in Miner

A quilt and craft show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9 at the Miner Convention Center, 2501 E. Malone St. Admission is $3. A raffle quilt will be awarded at 3 p.m. Sunday. The show, sponsored by the Bootheel Quilters' Guild of Sikeston, will include a display of dozens of handmade quilts, crafts for sale, a bed-turning of antique quilts, a viewers' choice award and door prizes. Back-to-school carnival set

The First General Baptist Church, 1812 Cape La Croix Road in Cape Girardeau, will host a free back-to-school carnival from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. For children entering kindergarten through eighth grade, the event will include games, a bouncehouse and food. Prizes will include school supplies. Cairo 1988 class reunion scheduled

The Cairo High School Class of 1988 reunion will be held Sept. 4, 5 and 6. An opening reception will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, followed by free fireworks at 9:45 p.m. Saturday's events include a family picnic from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., a dinner from 8 to 10:30 p.m., followed by an after-party. Sunday's activities include a blue and white junior varsity and varsity game from 1 to 5 p.m. and gospel music at 6:30 p.m. More information is available at cairoclassof1988.com.
