Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City will host an all-you-can-eat chili and chicken-noodle soup dinner from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church, 432 Lutheran Lane. The dinner includes homemade pies, cakes etc. The cost is $7.50 for adults and $3.50 for children ages 6 though 10; there is no charge for those ages 5 and younger. Carryouts will be available.
The Scott City First Assembly of God will host all-you-can-eat fish fries from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Fridays during Lent. The dates are Feb. 20 and 27 and March 6, 13 and 20. The meal includes fried fish, potatoes, baked beans, cole slaw, hushpuppies, coffee and tea. Cost is $8.50 for those ages 12 and older and $4.50 for those ages 6 to 11. There is no charge for anyone 5 and younger. Carryouts are available at $8.50 each.
The Scott City First Assembly of God will host a men's breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. The all-you-can-eat free meal includes sausage, bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy and more.
Free heart and health screenings will take place from 7 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, and again on Feb. 25. The screening includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, cardiac risk ratio, glucose and blood pressure check, which equates to a $29 value. For accurate results, a 10- to 12-hour fast is required. During fasting, one should drink plenty of plain water and continue taking prescription medications with water only. The screenings will be in the Health and Wellness Center Conference Rooms 1 and 2, Entrance 8, at Saint Francis Medical Center. Wings Etc. in Cape Girardeau and Jackson will host a fundraiser for The Friends of St. Francis from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Feb. 25. Throughout the day, 10 percent of proceeds will be donated to The Friends, benefiting the Building on Excellence expansion and renovation project.
St. Augustine Church and School will host Cougars for A Cure 5K, an adult run/walk and a children's fun run at 8:30 a.m. March 28. Start and finish will be at the ballpark in Kelso, Missouri. Awards will be given to the top three men and women runners in each age division. All participating children will receive an award. Packet pickup will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. March 27 and from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. March 28. It is recommended participants arrive early, park at St. Augustine School and walk to the ballpark. Adult registration is $20 prior to race day and $25 on the day of the race; children's registration is $10; and volunteer registration is $10 for a T-shirt. A buffet-style spring parish dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 8 at the St. Augustine School Gym in Kelso, Missouri. Carryouts will be available. The menu will include chicken and dumplings, baked ham, dressing and all the trimmings. The cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 11. There is no charge for children ages 5 and younger.
