Call for Teacher of the Year nominees

VFW Post 3838 and Auxiliary is seeking nominees for Teacher of the Year. Nominees can be teachers from public or private schools from elementary through high school levels in the Cape Girardeau School District. Anyone recommended for this award should lead by example and teach love of country, patriotism and/or support of U.S. troops and veterans. Recommendations should include the teacher's name, school represented and in what ways he or she meets the above criteria. Blood drive in honor of Wyatt Hill

A blood drive will be held from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Cross Roads Church in Jackson, 4400 E. Jackson Blvd., in honor of Wyatt Hill, a 4-year-old who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in April 2013. Hill has since been through chemotherapy and is in the "maintenance phase" undergoing treatment at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Presenting donors will receive a T-shirt while supplies last and there will be a drawing for a Visa gift card and other prizes.
