The Cora Arlene Miller Mabrey Endowed Scholarship has been established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. It was created through a $10,000 gift from the trust of Cora Arlene Miller Mabrey and will go to a Southeast student from Ripley County, Missouri, and an education major. Mabry was 1963 graduate of Southeast with a Bachelor of Science in Education, secondary education, with a major in business education. She also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching with a major in business education in 1975. She began her teaching career in Florissant, Missouri. She had a combined 30 years of teaching in St. Louis community schools.
The sixth annual Jackson Oktoberfest will be held in Uptown Jackson on Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., rain or shine. Oktoberfest is designed as a traditional German Oktoberfest that features an open Biergarten, live music and German style food, as well as children's activities, such as chalk art, costumed pet parade and more. SIKESTON, Mo. -- Three new board members have joined the Southeast Missouri Food Bank Board of Directors: Danielle Poyner with Drury Southwest of Cape Girardeau, Mark Avery with Tyson Foods of Dexter, Missouri, and Marty Platz with Coast to Coast Signs of Scott City. All three companies they represent are long-time supporters of the food bank, according to Karen Green, Southeast Missouri Food Bank CEO. The organization, founded in Sikeston in 1985, annually distributes over 10 million pounds of food in 16 Southeast missouri counties.
