Crites reunion scheduled Sept. 13

A reunion for family and friends of Andrew and Dora Bollinger Crites is planned for 12:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at Post Oak Church, County Road 378 off Highway 72 near Patton, Missouri. A potluck luncheon will take place at 1 p.m.

Church schedules Wimpy's day

Tickets are on sale for Wimpy's day at Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. The lunch and open house will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 19. Centenary is bringing back the original recipe, hometown favorite hamburgers, made and cooked by the Lewis family. Several members of the family are returning to help prepare the original Wimpy hamburger. Each $10 ticket entitles the holder to two burgers, French fries and a soft drink. Tickets must be purchased in advance and may be purchased by calling (573) 334-2869.

Children's bereavement camp set

Southeast Hospice will hold C.O.O.L. Camp, a bereavement camp for children, on Sept. 19. The one-day retreat is for children ages 6 to 15 years who have experienced the death of a loved one. The camp is free of charge and lunch is provided. An hourlong adult group will be offered for all participants' parents/guardians the morning of the camp. Information about the day's activities and children's grief issues will be provided. Registration deadline is Sept. 11. Parents or guardians must complete a phone assessment to obtain information about the child attending and how they are coping with the loss in order to attend the camp. Southeast Hospital rehab reunion set

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Southeast Hospital will host its annual inpatient rehab reunion from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 16 in the Harrison Room. Former patients and their guests will meet with therapists and nurses from the unit and hear a brief presentation by Dr. Matthew Karshner, medical director of inpatient rehabilitation. Those interested in attending are asked to call Cindi Morris at (573) 331-6575 before Monday.

Walk to raise funds for Rogers center

A walk to raise money for the Kenny Rogers Children's Center will take place Sept. 26 at the First Assembly of God Recreational Center in Sikeston. Registration will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at which time the 1.6-mile walk will begin, to be followed by a lunch. Those raising $100 will be awarded a prize and be eligible for a drawing to win a Kindle Fire HD7. Participants will receive a T-shirt.

VFW sets scholarship opportunities

The VFW is sponsoring the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest, open to students in grades 9 through 12. Each student may select a theme, which must be of a patriotic nature. Voice of Democracy is an audio essay contest with the theme of "My Vision for America." It is open to students in grades 9 through 12. Patriot's Pen is an essay contest with the theme of "What Freedom Means to Me." It is open to students in grades 6 through 8. The Missouri Past National Presidents' Scholarship is available to students who show leadership qualities. Those applying must have had a member of their family as a member of the VFW or its Ladies' Auxiliary. Spices focus of cooking class

The monthly healthy cooking class, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Sept. 21, will focus on flavors such as curry, turmeric, ginger and cinnamon. Raina Childers, HealthPoint Nutritional Services coordinator, will cook using various spices. Cost is $3 for HealthPoint members and $5 for nonmembers. Old-bag fundraiser scheduled Sept. 23

The Southeast Hospital Auxiliary will host a sale of used handbags and other items from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 23 in the Harrison Room. Donations of handbags, billfolds, coin purses, scarves and costume jewelry are sought. Proceeds from the sale will be used for Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries' 2015 project to promote epilepsy awareness. Donations of items will be accepted from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 9 and 16 at the parking garage link entrance near the Harrison Room. Volunteers will be on hand to receive drive-up donations and drop-offs.

Tobacco cessation sessions set

Several free, one-hour classes are scheduled Sept. 23 to help individuals learn more about options to stop tobacco use. Times are as follows: HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson, 410 W. Main St., 10 to 11 a.m.; SoutheastHEALTH of Stoddard County, 1200 N. SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary schedules shoe sale

The SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary will hold a shoe sale from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 25 in Southeast Hospital meeting room 106. The sale, presented by Shoe Roads Productions, features men's and women's shoes including Klogs, Dansko, Alegria, seasonal shoes and hand-painted shoes.

Run-Ride for Ragan Biathlon set

A run and ride will kick off at 8 a.m. Sept. 26 at Southeast Cancer Center and will include a one-mile honor/memory walk and 5K and 10K runs. Run-Ride for Ragan, first held in 2012, is held in honor of the late Ragan Ward Neilson, a Cape Girardeau native and daughter of Dr. Robert and Barb Ward. She died of breast cancer in 2007 at the age of 32. Funds raised will help aid in the fight against breast cancer through early detection and will benefit the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation's Cancer Patient Experience Fund, which provides necessary support and resources for cancer patients and those who cannot afford preventive screening. Cathedral to host event for men

The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Annunciation will host Catholic Man Night from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 24. Adult Catholic men are invited for an evening that includes adoration, confession, discussion and a meal. Church to host vehicle, craft show

St. Paul Lutheran Church, 223 W. Adams St. in Jackson, will host a mission fundraiser featuring a car, truck, motorcycle and tractor show, a craft fair, entertainment, food and children's games from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at the church.
