Church service to follow Bollinger County Fair
The third annual area-wide church service and dinner will follow the Bollinger County Fair on Oct. 4. Service starts at 10 a.m. with congregational singing. The message will be given at 11:30 with lunch to follow and an open mic during lunch and an afternoon of special singing. This year the service will recognize teenagers. If you have a children's choir or young singers who would like to be involved, call Audrey at 238-3714 or Linda at the Banner Press at 238-2821. Churches are requested to bring a meat dish and each family a side dish. Plates, napkins, cups and utensils will be provided.
River City Rodders and Old Town Cape host car show
The River City Rodders Car Club in conjunction with Old Town Cape will be hosting the River Tales Classic Car Show on Sept. 20. The Rodders' 32nd annual car show will again be held in downtown Cape Girardeau. Vehicles will be displayed along Main Street and in the downtown parking lot across from Hutson Furniture. More than 200 cars and trucks are expected this year, with entries from as far away as St. Louis and Memphis, Tenn. Trophies will be awarded in 31 classes, with classes available for most vehicles from 1900 through 1999. Registration fee for participating vehicles is $15. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with judging scheduled to begin at noon. Trophies and other awards will be given out at 3 p.m. There is no attendance charge for the general public. Scott City First Assembly will host a men's breakfast
Scott City First Assembly will host a men's breakfast Saturday beginning at 7:30 a.m. Men of all ages are welcome. The meal includes bacon, eggs, hash browns, biscuits, gravy and more. The meal is free but donations will be excepted.
Hunter safety education course to begin
A hunter safety education course is scheduled to begin Sept. 18 and 19 at Scott City First Assembly of God. The class will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 18 and from 8 to 6 p.m. Sept. 19. There will be hands-on activities, a live shooting range and many other resources. The course is free and open to ages 11 and older. For more information, call 264-2365.
First Assembly of God will host all you can eat fish fry
The Scott City First Assembly of God will be hosting an all you can eat fish fry Sept. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. The meal includes fried fish, potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw, hush puppies, coffee and tea. The cost for the meal is $8 for adults and $4 for children (ages 6 to 11). Children 5 years and under eat free. Carry outs are available for $8 cash.
Non-livestock entries at SEMO District Fair
Proud of flowers you have grown, vegetable you have produced, pictures you have taken, crafts you have made or the baked goods that bring compliments? Enter them in the upcoming SEMO District Fair competition for a chance at a blue ribbon and prize money. Categories include flowers, fruits and vegetables, field crops, baked goods, canned items, jams and jellies, homemade clothing, needlework, quilts, photography, paintings and drawings, crafts and hobbies. There is no cost to enter with a limit of one item per class for entry. Complete entry details are available in the SEMO Fair catalog located at the Fair office or online at www.semofair.com. Entries will only be accepted Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Arena Building. Judging will take place Sept. 13. Entry will be displayed through out fair.
Oliver House hosts ice cream social
The Jackson Heritage Association will host an ice cream social on Sept. 13, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Oliver House in Jackson. Refreshments, including cookies and ice cream, will be provided. Take a tour of the Oliver House, a Jackson historical landmark. Young and old will delight in the Victorian period furnishings and the chance to experience history. At 1:30 p.m., historian Dr. Frank Nickell, will be giving a talk about Missouri history. The Ice Cream Social is free and open to the public. The Oliver House is located at 224 East Adams St.
