A Labor Day Festival featuring a car show and block party will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 4154 Highway E in Oak Ridge. The car show will feature "anything with an engine," including cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles, ATV/UTV, military, heavy duty and diesel trucks. A Fall Muster will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at the Fort D Historic Site, 920 Fort St. in Cape Girardeau. The event will feature the soldiers and civilians at Fort D preparing for the fall. Local re-enactors will demonstrate cannon and rifle fire. The event is free and open to the public. The annual Church Women United Awareness Luncheon will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 9, at Emanuel United Church of Christ, 304 E. Adams St. in Jackson. The event will include speakers from SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence, the Amen Center and local project Sole Hope Show & Rugs of Bangladesh. Attendees are asked to bring a salad to share potluck-style after the presentations. Donations of paper products for the Amen Center and a free-will offering for the CWU Annual Scholarship Fund will be accepted.

A United Way Fundraiser and Poker Run will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, at Lawless Harley Davidson, 2100 E. Outer Road in Scott City. The Poker Run will begin at 10 a.m. and will end at 4 p.m. at Lawless Harley Davidson. A movie in the park will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Jackson City Park Band Shell, 1003 N. High St. in Jackson. The featured movie will be "Up." The evening's activities will begin at 6 p.m., and the movie will begin at sundown. The event is free, and there will be food and drinks available for purchase. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, a blanket and a flashlight. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Jackson Civic Center, 381 E. Deerwood Drive in Jackson.
A family reunion for the Tuschhoff family will begin at noon Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Trinity Lutheran Parish Hall, 3700 Country Road 415 in Friedheim, Missouri. All members of the Tuschhoff family are invited to attend. The dinner will be a potluck basket dinner, and attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share. SoutheastHEALTH Ambassadors will present Coins for Kids, an event to help raise funds for the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation Children's Wellness Fund, from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Coin-Op Cantina, 46 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. Those wishing to attend the event must be 21 years of age or older. Tickets will be $20 in advance and can be purchased at sehealth.org/foundation/ambassador-events/coins-for-kids or by calling (573) 519-4923, or will be $25 at the door. Ticket cost includes catering from Melting Co., a beer from Coin-Op, discounted game prices, free soft drinks and drawings for prizes every hour.
Master Gardener core course training sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 12 weeks, beginning Sept. 20 and running through Oct. 27 at the Cape Girardeau County University of Missouri Extension Center, 684 Jackson Trail in Jackson. The program costs $165 and includes the Master Gardener Core Manual, state fees, refreshments and speaker fees throughout the 12-week program. The registration deadline is Sept. 13. The program will cover plant anatomy, soils and fertility, annual and perennial flowers, fruits and brambles, vegetable gardening, lawn care, insects, landscaping, propagation and plant disease.
