Genealogical Society book sale
The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society will have a book sale at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center, 112 E. Washington St. in Jackson. Most books will sell for $1 or less, and there will be some free items as well. The library will also be available for members to do research. Mike Hahn of Egypt Mills will speak on "The Sinking of the Sultana on the Mississippi River in 1865" at 7:30 p.m. That is available to members and nonmembers. Membership is $10 per year. 2011 Midwest Forest Show
The 2011 Midwest Forest Industry Show will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau. Joe Collins of Collins River Logging will make a guest appearance. More than a quarter of a million square feet of exhibits, displays and live demonstrations will be available at the show. Fall Bazaar in Marble Hill, Mo.
The Lutesville Presbyterian Church women will again host their annual Fall Bazaar from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Wicecraver Store in Marble Hill, Mo. There will be quilt, hobbies and collectibles on display. Items may be purchased. There will be a raffle for a vintage quilt.
Cape River Heritage Day
Come out and celebrate Cape Girardeau's history by visiting Glenn House, Old St. Vincent's Church, Red House Interpretive Center and Cape River Heritage Museum. Admission is free from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
A Day on the River
People of all ages are invited to "A Day on the River," hosted by the Missouri Department of Conservation, Southern Illinois University and the American Land Conservancy on Saturday. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Red Star Access in downtown Cape Girardeau and at the Middle Mississippi River Wetland Field Station in East Cape Girardeau, Ill.
