The First Pentecostal Church of Cape Girardeau will be have anniversary services today in honor of the Rev. Darrell Faire and his wife, Sheila. This month marks their 15th year of service to the church.
The general secretary of the United Pentecostal Church International, the Rev. Jerry Jones, will preach during the 10:30 a.m. service.
The 6 p.m. service will feature Gospel music and worship, followed by food and fellowship in the church dining hall; the public is invited.
Free Blackwood Brothers concert scheduled
First General Baptist Church, 1812 Cape La Croix Road in Cape Girardeau, will host a free concert featuring the Blackwood Brothers at 7 p.m. Oct. 3.
A free-will offering will be accepted.

'Little German Church' homecoming slated
The 37th annual homecoming of Trinity Methodist Church and Cemetery Association will be 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 4.
The church, often is referred to as the "Little German Church," is on Route N three miles west of Delta.
After a short business meeting, the church will be open. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating.

Poker run to benefit veterans, families
Long Shots Bar and Grill in Cape Girardeau's Town Plaza will serve as the start and finish lines of a Saturday poker run to benefit local veterans and fallen heroes.
The 80-mile-run will start at approcimately 10 a.m.
Past runs have garnered nearly $20,000, allowing the purchase of a Hickory Pit smoker and bingo machine for the Veterans Home, a headstone for a fallen hero's grave and clothing, personal items and toiletries for individual veterans.
Following the run, riders may gather at Long Shots for food, yard games, a live auction and music by the Jimmy Lee Band. New to this year's entertainment is a Harley Davidson stunt show featuring the group Ill Conduct.

Book covers Wayne County history
Robert H. Forister recently published "History of Wayne County, MO" combines general history with memories of his childhood in Wayne County in the 1930s and 1940.
His three earlier books cover Stoddard County history, Butler County history and Bloomfield, Missouri.

Golf tourney to benefit mission
A four-person golf scramble tournament is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Bent Creek Golf Course in Jackson to benefit His Legacy Inc., a not-for-profit mission organization.
Proceeds will beneift the 2015 international and local missions of the group.
Entry fee per team is $400, and hole and tee sponsorships are available. The event includes lunch, prizes and awards.

Bark in the Park to benefit Humane Society
Bark in the Park will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Dogtown in Kiwanis Park in Cape Girardeau.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
Activities include a walk-a-thon, carnival food and games, face-painting, a bouncy house, paw-painting, dog wash, nail trim and more.
Contests include a pet-owner look-alike and pet tricks.

March of Dimes Chefs Auction set Nov. 6
The 2014 Signature Chefs Auction presented by SoutheastHealth will be Nov. 6 at The Plaza Conference Center in Cape Girardeau, with doors opening at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are available for $50 per ticket or $400 for a table. Proceeds benefit the March of Dimes.
Attendees will be able to sample several courses prepared by various teams of area chefs using specific ingredients selected by the auction committee. Voting will take place throughout the night with the winning team being named the "Top Chefs" of the night.
The event includes live and silent auctions; among items available for bidding are a two-night stay at Big Cedar Lodge in Branson, Missouri; University of Missouri Tigers men's basketball tickets; and 2015 St. Louis Cardinals baseball tickets with hotel stays.
All raised proceeds from the event will directly benefit the March of Dimes foundation as well as the health of babies and mothers throughout Missouri.
