The Apostolic Promise Church in Cape Girardeau has moved to its new building and will celebrate with the first public service at 10 a.m. Sept. 26. The church relocated from Country Club Drive to 750 Mount Auburn Road. Worship times will be 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sundays and 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
The Old McKendree Chapel will host Old McKendree Day to celebrate 201 years of the Old McKendree congregation. The event features music by Trudy Lee, Vicki Boran and others and will have guest speaker the Rev. Kurt Schuermann at 3 p.m. Sept. 26 with refreshments after the service. Bring blankets or lawn chairs.
Several churches will be coming together for a benefit for evangelist Billy Carter that will start at 4 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Church of God in Chaffee, Mo. Carter is battling non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and has no insurance. Several area churches are working together to raise money for Carter. The following churches are participating: Church of God, New Life Gospel Center and Father's Arms Fellowship in Scott City, Randles Free Trinity Pentecostal Church as well as other Full Gospel Churches in the Caruthersville, Portageville and Sikeston areas. St. Joseph Home and School in Scott City will host its 20th annual dinner auction at 6 p.m. Oct. 16. The theme for this year's dinner auction is "The Spirit of the '60s: Peace, Love and Charity." A statewide essay and artwork contest for fourth-grade students is taking place through Dec. 31. This year's theme of the annual contest is "Caring." Students are to write an essay and create a hand-drawn picture. The contest is open to any fourth-grade student in Missouri, in public schools, private schools or homeschooled. The Salvation Army will be serving Meals with Friends from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday at the Salvation Army building in Cape Girardeau. Menu items for the week will include turkey noodles, ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables, fruit, spaghetti, chicken rice and pork sandwiches. The event is free and open to the public.
