Bus trip to Cardinals game is July 20

Tickets are on sale for a July 20 bus trip to St. Louis, hosted by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, where the St. Louis Cardinals will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Discounted game tickets are $25 each and a bus trip ticket is $20. The chartered bus will leave the Osage Centre parking lot at 4 p.m.

At the game, the first 25,000 fans ages 21 years old and older will receive a replica home jersey with the National League champion logo to commemorate the 2013 league championship between the Cardinals and Dodgers.

Former 'Lutheran Hour' speaker to appear

Dr. Wallace Schulz, an evangelist with the Lutheran Heritage Foundation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, will be the guest minister at the mission festival of Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville.

He will speak at 10:15 a.m. Aug. 3 at the church, 176 County Road 226, and will make an afternoon presentation following a noon luncheon. All are open to the public.

Schulz is editor of the synod's Good News magazine, a former "Lutheran Hour" radio program speaker and LCMS vice president. He has been a missionary in countries where people are persecuted for their beliefs, including China, Cuba and the former Soviet Union.

Schulz also will preach at 8 a.m. Aug. 3 St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 Gray Ave., in Chaffee, Missouri.

Hobbs Chapel to host Bible school

Hobbs United Methodist Chapel will hold vacation Bible school from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday for children ages of 3 to 12. The theme of the free program is "Building with God" and it includes dancing, music, crafts and snacks.

Registration will begin at 5 p.m. Monday at the chapel, 3024 Highway 177 in Cape Girardeau.

Auxiliary schedules shoe sale

The Saint Francis Hospital Auxiliary will host a Shoe Roads Productions shoe sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 17 and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 18.

The sale will be in the hospital's Franciscan Conference Rooms at entrance 8.

A news release from the hospital said the sale offers reasonable prices on brand-name shoes and sandals for work, fun or special events and will feature Vera Bradley products.

Food bank donations at three locations

Hobbs United Methodist Chapel will sponsor three "stuff-a-truck" events in Cape Girardeau to benefit the FISH Food Bank.

Trucks will be in place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 12 at Food Giant, 1120 N. Kingshighway, Wal-Mart, 3439 William St., and Schnucks Supermarket, 19 S. Kingshighway.

The FISH Food Bank is at 1601 S. Sprigg St.; patrons are asked to call ahead, 573-334-0207.

Bible school at First Baptist

First Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau will host vacation Bible school with a carnival theme from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The school, for children ages four through those who have completed fifth grade, is at the church at the corner of Lexington Avenue and Cape Rock Drive.

Heart and health screenings offered

Saint Francis Medical Center will host several health screenings from 7 to 10 a.m. July 16 at the hospital's Health and Wellness Center, entrance 8.

The heart screening, $29, includes a lipid profile plus glucose and includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, cardio risk ratio plus glucose for diabetes.

Blood-pressure screenings are free, a glucose screening is $6 and women's osteoporosis screening is $25.
