Greater Dimension Ministries, 723 Hackberry St. in Cape Girardeau, will host a "Breaking Barriers 2012" conference from Aug. 9 to 12. Guest speakers include Apostle Adrian Taylor of Cape Girardeau, Co-Pastor Gladys Hood of Hayti, Mo., Apostle Sharon Billins of Columbus, Ga., and Dr. William Bird Sr., conference host. Nightly sessions begin at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10. A luncheon is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m., a special empowerment, training and impartation workshop will be facilitated by Apostle Sharon Billins, founder of the Samuel School of the Prophets. St. Joseph Parish in Apple Creek will host a picnic from 2 to 7 p.m. Sept. 1. Activities include games, country store, fancy stand, raffles for prizes and bingo. Parishioners will serve kettle-cooked beef and fried chicken dinner with an all-you-can-eat buffet. Costs for adults is $9, children 6 to 12 is $4 and free for children younger than 6.
The First General Baptist Church, 1812 La Croix Road in Cape Girardeau, will hold a concert with the Tribute Quartet of Nashville at 6 p.m. Aug. 5. There is no admission charge. A freewill offering will be received. For more information, call 334-2234.
Young girls and boys and young ladies from the area are invited to participate in the annual Heartland Pageants Sept. 2 at the Bearcat Event Center in Dexter, Mo.
Schedule for Heartland Pageants
* Baby Miss at 1:30 p.m.: birth through 17 months
* Tiny Miss at 2 p.m.: 18 to 35 months
* Wee Miss at 2:30 p.m.: 3 to 5 years
* Petite Miss at 3 p.m.: 6 to 8 years
* Pre-Teen Miss at 3:30 p.m.: 9 to 11 years
* Jr. Miss Heartland at 4 p.m.: 12 to 14 years
* Miss Heartland at 4:30 p.m.: 15 to 19 years
Pageant wear is required for all contestants. The queen in each division will receive a crown, sash and trophy; alternates will receive a sash and trophy. This year, as in years past, the new Miss Heartland will also receive a $100 cash award. All contestants should arrive at least 30 minutes before their pageant. There is no rehearsal, and the decision of the judges is final. An entry fee of $20 is required for each contestant and must accompany the mailed application.
