Free movie in Jackson City Park

Jackson City Park will screen the movie "The Goonies" at 8 p.m. Aug. 1 in the Rock Garden. The event is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring seating.

The 1985 film is the story of a group of children who set out on an adventure in search of pirate treasure that could save their homes from foreclosure.

Corvette Caravan in Cape on Aug. 26

Cape Girardeau will host 400 to 500 Corvettes and their owners Aug. 26 as part of the 20th anniversary National Corvette Caravan as they head to Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Activities include a display of locally owned Corvettes and cars participating in the caravan. Hot Rod Nights will provide music, and demonstrations and simulators will be part of the event, which will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Cape Girardeau.

Chaffee church to host crusade

Randles General Baptist Church, 112 N. Henderston St., Chaffee, Missouri, will host a family crusade Aug. 8 through Aug. 10.

The Friday lesson, "Temptation," and the Saturday lesson, "Love," will begin at 6 p.m.; refreshments will be served. Sunday's lesson, "Heaven," will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a picnic lunch.

Charolotte Reed and Puppet Power also will be featured.

Talent showcase fundraiser set for Saturday

Heartland Talent Showcase, a not-for-profit organization the mission of which is to help develop the talents of those ages 6 through 22, will present free entertainment from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Jackson City Park bandstand.

Entertainment will be provided by contestants and other local talent, and there will be family games, a bouncehouse, raffles and vendors.

The talent finals competition is scheduled Oct. 4 at the Perrville, Missouri, Community Center, and consists of three divisions: junior, ages 6 through 11; intermediate, ages 12 through 16; and senior, ages 17 through 22. Contestants compete for cash prizes and college scholarships.

Revival at Fairview Baptist

A religious revival with evangelist Bro. Jamie Hovis will begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 4 thrugh 8 at Fairview General Baptist Church near Advance, Missouri.

Special singing will take place nightly with Jennifer Krepps, Monday; Anita and Jamie Hovis Family, Tuesday; Don Hester, Wednesday; Mikayla and The Davis Tradition, Thursday; and Crossroads, Friday.

Speaker series at Shawnee Park Center

New Life Fellowship, a Seventh-Day Adventist congregation, will host a series of speakers during the next several weeks.

The series will be take place at 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and at 10 a.m. Saturdays.

The schedule follows: Pastor Etser Edouard, July 31 thrugh Aug. 2; Pastor Byron Crockett, Aug. 7 through 9; Pastor Kory P. Douglas, Aug. 14 through 16; and Pastor John Coaxum, Aug. 21 through 23.

The American Red Cross is facing a looming blood shortage, leading to an urgent need for donors of all blood types, with donations down approximately 8 percent during the last 11 weeks.
