Jackson schedules pick up week

Jackson will conduct its Clean-Up/Fix-Up Program this week. This free service is available to residents who qualify for the solid waste pickup program. Personnel will pick up all qualifying refuse placed at the curb by 8 a.m. on the regularly scheduled trash collection day. No return trips will be made. No additional trash bag stickers are required for residential household waste. The normal three-bag limit is not enforced during the days of the program. All items placed at curbside will be disposed of -- including trash cans, boxes and other containers. Residents should not leave out trash cans unless the intent is to dispose of. It is required that all residential trash be bagged, tied or bundled in some manner. No tires, motor oils, hazardous materials or yard waste of any kind will be collected during this week. Paint cans must be dried out or have the lid tightly sealed so that no paint can seep out. Appliances must be at curbside. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners must be gas-free with the compressors and doors removed. Only one appliance per household will be collected at no charge to the owner. A $10 charge will be applied for each additional appliance collected. For more information, please call the Public Works Department at 243-2300 or Sanitation Department at 243-2333.
