Shawnee National Forest presents ArborWild

Shawnee National Forest will bring ArborWild, an outdoor educational event, to Evergreen Park in Carbondale, Ill., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. The event also will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park in Harrisburg, Ill. All ages are invited to attend, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Cape Marketeers Club to begin June 15

The Cape Riverfront Market is starting a Cape Marketeers Club for ages 5 through 12 that promotes healthy eating habits. The club will begin meeting June 15 and will have monthly activities at the market on the third Saturday of each month through October. Signups for the club begin at the market May 25. All club activities are free to the community, and incentives and rewards will be given based on the frequency of participation in the form of $2 tokens that can be spent at produce booths. Open house at Watkins Wildlife Rehab

Watkins Wildlife Rehab will host an open house from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. today. Visitors will receive animal tours conducted by the Watkins, and there also will be a bake sale and a silent auction to benefit the animals. Items in the silent auction include a signed baseball and book by Tony La Russa, former manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland Athletics and the Chicago White Sox. Visitors should wear proper walking attire and remember there are wild animals present. There is no admission fee but donations are welcome. For more information, call Carolyn at 866-3436.

Red Cross to hold disaster recovery training

The Southeast Missouri chapter of the American Red Cross is launching "Academy 2013" from July 10 through 13 at the Crisp Building of Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Academy 2013 will offer speakers and courses in disaster recovery aimed at individuals, businesses and community organizations. The four-day event will be an opportunity to learn step-by-step actions in preparing neighborhoods to adapt and recover from a disaster. East Missouri Action Agency provides free meals

The East Missouri Action Agency will provide free meals for children this summer from June 3 through July 26. The agency will provide the meals at the following locations in Cape Girardeau: East Missouri Action Agency, 1111 Linden St., where lunch will be served from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday; Boys and Girls Club, Shawnee Park Center, 1157 S. West End Blvd., where breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch from 12:15 to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday; and Red Star Baptist Church, 1360 N. Main St., where lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 10 to July 19. No registration is required. Limited space available at the Quilt-R's Market

There are a limited number of spaces for rent at the Quilt-R's Market on Sept. 28 at Centenary United Methodist Church's Family Life Center. Sponsored by Church Women United, the market will offer quilters the opportunity to sell their UFO's, excess fabric, blocks, magazines, patterns and notions. The market will be held the weekend of the Quilt Tour 2013 shows at the Glenn House and River Heritage Museum and the Oliver House in Jackson. A $2 suggested admission donation benefits the Cape Girardeau Area Church Women United Scholarship Fund, and there will be lunch served and also a bake sale.
