Biehle Picnic will provide food, games, music

St. Maurus Church will host the Biehle Picnic on Saturday. A buffet- style, all-you-can-eat supper will be served from 3 to 7:30 p.m. The meal will include fried chicken, dressing and kettle-cooked beef. Carry outs will be available. The meal will cost $8 for adults, $4.50 for children ages 6 to 11 and free for ages under 6. In addition to supper, a lunch stand will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. serving hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs and french fries. Activities will include bingo, games and face painting. Live rock and roll music will be provided by Dave Caputo from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Mass will take place at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Anthony Dattilo.

Cardiovascular and osteoporosis screenings

The Osage Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway, will host a Life Line screening July 23. The screenings will identify potential cardiovascular conditions such as blocked arteries, irregular rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered and is appropriate for men and women. Packages start at $149. All screenings will take 60 to 90 minutes to complete. SoutheastHEALTH offers cruise opportunity

The SoutheastHEALTH Foundation is offering a travel opportunity that will also help support the work of the foundation. Participants will go aboard the Carnival Conquest and set sail on a seven-night cruise from Feb. 3 through Feb. 9, sailing round trip from New Orleans to Key West, Fla., to the Bahamas. Pricing ranges from $655 per person for an inside stateroom, $785 per person for an ocean-view room or $945 per person for a balcony stateroom. The price includes a seven-night cruise, meals, entertainment, port charges, taxes and fees and a tax-deductible contribution to the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation that will be used to help support the garden at Southeast's new Cancer Center. Mingo Swamp photo contest is back

The Mingo National Wildlife Refuge is having its seventh annual Mingo Swamp photo contest. The deadline for submission is July 2. Submit your unmounted, unmatted and unframed photos to Mingo National Wildlife Refuge, Attn: Mingo Swamp Photo Contest, 24279 State Highway 51, Puxico, MO 63960. There are five categories: Mingo landscape, native wildlife, native plant, people in nature and artistically enhanced. There are three divisions: adults (18 and older), youth (17 and younger) and professional photographers. That separate division allows for professional photographers to compete as a single category. The entry fee is $5 for the first three photos and $5 for each additional photo. Entry forms can be downloaded from mingoswampfriends.org. Photos must be 10 inches by 14 inches to help keep exhibit shipping costs affordable.

Original home open for Vandivort reunion

On July 1, more than 90 members of the Vandivort family (in town for their annual family reunion) will visit 630 North St. in Cape Girardeau. This historic residence was the scene of the original family reunions more than 50 years ago. The present owners, John David Perry and Steven Williams, have opened their home for the family to visit and share memories of their heritage. The house tour will be followed by a luncheon at The Venue. It will be a time for the Vandivorts to recount their family stories of North Street and thank the present owners.
