Area Jehovah's Witnesses will convene at two three-day events at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri,
With the theme "Keep Seeking First God's Kingdom," events will be June 27 through 30 and Aug. 1 through 3. The public is invited, and there is no admission fee.
Members of congregations in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Perryville, Sikeston, Dexter, Malden, Poplar Bluff and Kennett are planning to participate in the June convention, according to area representative Tom Kelsey.

Tickets are available for the Red Cross 2014 Everyday Heroes luncheon, which will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Isle Casino Cape Girardeau.
According to a news release from the American Red Cross Southeast Missouri the following people will be honored:
* The late Nolan Weber of Jackson; Nolan lost his battle with cancer in 2013 but through his strength and courage he changed the lives of those who knew him, and in fact, an entire town. "We believe" his legacy will live on.
* Cory Beussink of Jackson; Cory is a pediatric physical therapist at Southeast Health Outpatient Rehabilitation who believes in possibilities, not disabilities.
* Ron and JoAnn Hahs, a couple from Daisy, Missouri, are heroes to people across the country for their work to spread hope, affect change and spur recovery.
Proceeds from the event will benefit American Red Cross disaster relief in southeast Missouri.

Jackson wagon trail parade set
As part of its ongoing bicentennial celebration, Jackson will hold a wagon trail parade July 5.
The parade -- with covered wagons, stage coaches, chuck wagons and horseback riders -- will begin at the pool parking lot, wind through Uptown Jackson and return to Jackson City Park. After the parade, carriage rides through the park will be offered.

United Way extends shoebox project
United Way of Southeast Missouri is extending its shoebox project that helps people in the community with items they need but cannot afford. Shoeboxes containing toiletries will be collected through July 31.
United Way is asking individuals, groups and businesses to decorate a shoebox and fill it with basic hygiene or baby items. Once completed, boxes may be dropped off at the United Way office, 430A Broadway in Cape Girardeau. The organization will work with its funded partners to distribute boxes to families and individuals in need.
United Way hopes to reach a goal of 300 completed shoeboxes. More information is available by calling 573-334-9634 or emailing beth.schweer@unitedwayofsemo.org.
Among items suggested for the boxes are the following:
Hygiene items: Antibiotic ointment, hand sanitizer, socks, tampons, panty liners/sanitary napkins, rain ponchos, resealable zipper storage bags, travel-size shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste, hair comb/brush, sunscreen, lip balm, adhesive bandages, nonalcoholic mouthwash. tissues, razors and shaving cream.
Baby items: Wipes, diapers, baby wash and lotion, diaper cream, baby shampoo, onesies, bottles, burp cloths/bibs, formula, baby food, pacifiers, bottle brush, books, teething toys and thermometer.
