Meals with Friends menu set

Meals with Friends is served noon to 1 p.m. at the Salvation Army. This week's menu is as follows:

• Monday: sloppy joes, greenbeans, macaroni and cheese, fruit and dessert.
• Tuesday: Turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, greenbeans, fruit, dessert and bread.
• Wednesday: Spaghetti, greenbeans, fruit, dessert and bread.
• Thursday: Baked chicken, macaroni and cheese, greenbeans, fruit, dessert and bread.
• Friday: Leftovers

Cartooning class set Monday

Chris McBrien will lead a free cartooning class from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. The class, for children ages 9 to 12, will demonstrate how to draw body structure, facial features and more. Information is available by calling 573-334-5279

Christian women's group to gather

The first meeting of the Christian Business Women's Connection will be from 7 to 8 a.m. Tuesday at Chick-fil-A, 3333 Gordonville Road in Cape Girardeau. Subsequent meetings will be each Tuesday thereafter. A notice from the group says its mission is "to saturate the workplace with the gospel of Christ." Bible school at Hobbs Chapel

Hobbs Chapel will host vacation Bible school for children ages 4 to 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. June 29 through July 3. Under the theme of Camp Courage, the school will include prayer, worship, music and fun activities. Children ages 4 to 6 must have an accompanying adult. Blood drive at Southeast Hospital

An American Red Cross blood drive, hosted by SoutheastHEALTH Volunteer Services, will take place 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 1 in the Harrison Room at Southeast Hospital. Lunch cooler bags will be given to donors while supplies last. Walk-ins are welcome or appointments may be made by calling 573-651-5518.

5K run-walk in Jackson July 4

An Independence Day 5K run and walk, in support of SoutheastHEALTH's children's health and wellness programs, will begin at 7:04 July 4. Registration is open until 5 p.m. July 3 at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape or Jackson, or online at SEhealth.org/July4Race. Registration includes a T-shirt and giveaway bag. Safe House schedules banquet

The 2015 Safe House for Women banquet will be July 9 at The Concourse, 429 N. Broadview St. in Cape Girardeau. A cash-bar reception at 5:30 p.m. will be followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Circuit Judge Scott Lipke will speak. Cost is $25; reservations may be made by calling 573-335-7745.

Friedheim Fun Fest scheduled July 11

The Friedheim Fun Fest will be July 11 across from Trinity Lutheran Church. Proceeds will be donated to the Waylon Friese annual scholarship and the family of Teri Ruch, who is afflicted with leukemia. The day's activities include a volleyball tournament at 9 a.m., a tractor ride at 10 a.m., a potluck supper and live music at 6 p.m. and an auction at 7 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share, drinks and seating; table service will be provided. Fundraiser for Safe House scheduled

A taco lunch to raise funds for Safe House for Women will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at Cape Church of the Nazarene, 2601 Independence St. in Cape Girardeau. Food will be available to eat on-site, to carry out or for delivery. The menu includes hard- or soft-shell tacos, chips and salsa, a beverage and dessert. Saint Francis offers stop-smoking program

Saint Francis Medical Center is one of six Missouri health-care facilities to offer the Baby and Me: Tobacco Free smoking cessation sponsored by The March of Dimes and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. The program rewards women who quit smoking before delivery and stay smoke free post-delivery by providing $25 in monthly diaper vouchers for each month smoke free, for up to one year postpartum. Project Homeless Connect set Oct. 2

Project Homeless Connect will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 2 at the Osage Centre. Together with Empower Missouri and the Missouri Governor's Committee to End Homelessness, area agencies will offer support and services to those in need. Cooking class to focus on tomatoes

The July 20 Healthy Cooking Class will focus on tomatoes. The class, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau, is led by Raina Childers,
