The Walkway of Honor in the Capaha Park rose garden will be dedicated at 6 p.m. Wednesday, with a ribbon cutting by Cape Girardeau Mayor Harry Rediger.
The public is welcome; the event, which will include refreshments, artwork displays and live music and will be followed by the first concert of the municipal band at 8 p.m. at the band shell. The garden is at the northwest corner of the park with access via Parkview Street. Participants may wish to bring seating.
The project is a cooperative effort of the Cape Girardeau Council of Garden Clubs with assistance from the city's Parks and Recreation Department. Made of commemorative pavers, purchased by donors, the walkway provides access to the garden, maintained by Cape's three garden clubs -- Four Seasons, Ramblewood and Rose Hills.

Lutheran immigration conference set
The Perry County Lutheran Historical Society will host its third immigration history conference Oct. 23 through 25.
The conference, titled "Beyond the Beginnings: The Perry County German-Lutheran Immigrations in a Wider World," commemorates the 175th anniversary of the German-Lutheran immigration to Perry County. It will be held at the Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum in Altenburg, Missouri. Participation is limited to 100 people.
Among presenters will be U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, president of the State Historical Society of Missouri; the Rev. Dr. Matthew Harrison, president of the Lutheran Church-Missouri synod; Dr. Ingerose Paust, German author and historian; Dr. Gary R. Kremer, executive director of the State Historical Society of Missouri; the Rev. Dr. Daniel Harmelink, director of the Concordia Historical Institute in St. Louis; and Cynthia Browne, supervisor of the Deutschheim State Historical Sites in Hermann, Missouri.
The conference includes a bus tour of churches affiliated with the 1838-1839 Lutheran migration to Perry County and other migrations, wine and cheese tastings and a brewery tour. Fee for the three-day conference, $250 per person, includes all sessions, all lunches and dinners, genealogical research and bus tour.

Saint Francis Auxiliary linen sale
The Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary will hold a linen sale from 7 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the center's lower-level elevator area.
Available will be used blankets, sheets, pillowcases, towels, footies, pads, gowns and more at discounted prices. All items have been thoroughly laundered.
HealthPoint offers women's self-defense class
Nick Slinkard, third degree black belt, will share self-defense techniques including awareness, prevention and preservation at a women's self-defense class at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The 45-minute class will take place on Mondays -- starting tomorrow -- through July 7 at 7 p.m.

Fitness with four-legged friends
Fitness Plus is hosting the sixth annual Furr 5K run and one-mile walk Saturday.
Cost of the run, which starts at 8 a.m. at Missouri Running Co., 1720 Kingsway Drive, is $25. Participants may register online at furry5k2014.eventbrite.com.
The event provides an opportunity to have a fitness outing with four-legged friends. Trophies and medals will be given to the top finishers. Saint Francis and its sponsors provide water and waste bags for dogs, as well as door prizes.
Catholic Social Ministries yard sale
The annual yard sale hosted by Catholic Social Ministries will be Thursday through Saturday at St. Mary Catholic School gymnasium, 615 William St. in Cape Girardeau.
Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 7 a.m. to noon Saturday. After 10 a.m. Saturday, merchandise will be sold at $1 per bag.
All proceeds will help fund the Catholic food pantry.
