Free auto show Saturday in Cape Girardeau

Ford Groves Ford-Lincoln will host an auto show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 1501 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau.

In lieu of an entry fee, donations will be accepted to support the work of Backstoppers, the St. Louis-based organization the mission of which is to assist the families of police, fire and EMS officers killed in the line of duty and officers suffering catastrophic injuries. It covers 19 counties in Missouri and Illinois.

Dash plaques and specialty awards will be distributed. Free food and beverages will be available, and attendance prizes will be awarded.

Ford Groves is marking its 100th year in business.

Area blood drives scheduled

The American Red Cross has scheduled several blood drives in May, and those who donate between May 24 and 26 will receive a Red Cross cooling towel while supplies last.

New McKendree sale in Uptown Jackson

New McKendree United Methodist Church will hold its sale -- as part of the 100-Mile Yard Sale -- at its 225 S. High St. location in Uptown Jackson.

The sale will be May 22, 23 and 24 and run on Highway 25 between Jackson and Kennett, Missouri.

Because the church's Highway 25 location is in use by the Jackson schools, organizers moved the sale to uptown location.

Rodeo to benefit Rogers Children's Center

A rodeo by the National Federation of Professional Bullriders will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Diamond S Arena, 24512 County Road 219 in Bloomfield. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Kenny Rogers Children's Center in Sikeston.

Admission is $10 for those 10 years old and older and $5 for children ages 5 to 9; children younger than 5 will be admitted free.

Live music will be performed each evening, with Cross Timbers playing Thursday, the Keith Morrison Band performing Friday and Southern Tradition taking the stage Saturday.

Events include bareback riding, steer wresting, team roping, saddle bronc, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding. The price for contestants is $40 per night or $100 for all three nights; contestants must register by 6 p.m. for face a $10 late fee. There will be payouts; it is an open rodeo.

Refreshments will be available. Seating is limited; attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
