Walmart, Feeding America and the Southeast Missouri Food Bank are joining forces in April for the fifth annual nationwide "Fight Hunger. Spark Change." campaign. Throughout the month Walmart is offering four ways customers can fight hunger online, in-store and through social sharing to help secure aid for local food banks, including Southeast Missouri Food Bank, according to a news release. The holidays are a time when households produce a lot of extra potential recyclables, according to a recent City of Jackson Facebook post. Many items ordinarily thrown away such as boxes, greeting cards, beverage bottles, food jars, and metal food containers can add up quickly. The Recycling Center can recycle plastic Easter eggs. They are plastic containers #3-7.

The Jackson police department received their annual accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, or CALEA, Jackson mayor Dwain Hahs said at Monday's board of aldermen regular meeting.
Cpl. Rick Whitaker handled the process, Hahs said.
Missouri's 16th annual No More Trash! Bash, a litter prevention campaign sponsored by the Missouri departments of Conservation and Transportation, will focus on "spring cleaning" the outdoors. According to a news release, state residents are asked to pick up litter during the April 15 through May 15 campaign. While it encourages people to clean up litter from Missouri roadsides, parks, streams, trails and other outdoor places, the Trash Bash also includes educational efforts in schools, community events and Earth Day celebrations, says the release. The Riverside Regional Library Friends of the Library at Altenburg will hold a membership drive kick-off event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Altenburg branch, 66 Poplar St. Children's story time and activities begin at 10 a.m., and Perry County native Ann Hazelwood will be signing for her new book, "For the Love of Quilts," the first book in her new Wine Country Quilts series, beginning at 11 a.m.
The event kicks off a six-week membership drive for the newly-formed Friends of the Library non-profit organization. Annual membership fees are $5 for an individual, $10 for a family at $25 for a business.
