Date set for VintageNOW4 benefit fashion show

The VintageNOW4 benefit fashion show is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at The Venue in Cape Girardeau. Proceeds will benefit the Safe House for Women and is presented by Pastimes Antiques and Rustmedia. The theme is "The Great Gatsby" and will feature vintage clothing from the Roaring '20s with a modern twist. Last year's event drew 900-plus people and raised more than $40,000 to assist women who are victims of domestic violence. Ticket price will be announced later. Girl Scouts to hold hygiene item drive

The Cape Girardeau Girl Scouts are holding a hygiene-item drive for area children in need. On Saturday, Girl Scouts will place hot pink bags throughout neighborhoods with a list of needed items, including: toothpaste, shampoo, bar soap, toothbrushes, conditioner, shower gel, deodorant and mouthwash. Participants are asked to place the items in bags and set them by their door to be picked up after 8 a.m. April 20. Items also can be dropped off at the Southeast Missouri Food Bank, US Bank branch offices in Cape Girardeau and Allure Salon. Soapbox derby set for May 4

The annual Soap Box derby is scheduled for 8 a.m. May 4 at Blanchard Elementary School in Cape Girardeau. The event is sponsored by Cape Girardeau Rotary Club and SoutheastHEALTH.

Farmer's Market workshop to be held April 18

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services will conduct a workshop for food vendors and producers of foods sold at farmer's markets from 8 a.m. to noon April 18 at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center. The meeting will focus on regulations and exemptions, approved sources, food safety and sanitation and processing of nonexempt foods. Indian Artifact Show set for Saturday

The Illinois State Archaeological Society is holding the annual Indian Artifact Show to be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at World Shooting and Recreational Complex on Illinois Route 4, near Sparta, Ill. The event is free and anyone with collections is invited to learn more about his or her artifacts. There will be 70 exhibitors planned with local artifacts, vendors, demonstrations and more. Mended Hearts meeting Tuesday

Mended Hearts provides education and support for patients and families who have undergone heart surgery. This month's program will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Harrison Room in Southeast Hospital and will cover the visiting program. For more information, call 331-6630.

Childbirth Preparation Class

SoutheastHEALTH is conducting a childbirth preparation class to help prepare parents for the emotional and physical changes, labor process, coping techniques and more. HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson is having the Kids' Extravaganza Health & Fitness Fair from 9 to 11 a.m. April 20. Planned activities include a fun run, face painting, door prizes and information on nutrition, health and summer programs.

Women's self-defense class offered April 20

Second annual Jacque Waller 5k to be held June 1

The second annual Jacque Waller 5k run is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. June 1 at Shawnee Park in Cape Girardeau. The run will be followed by a one-mile family walk. Shine Light 5k set for April 18

The Shine Light 5k is scheduled for 6 p.m. April 18 at the Southeast Missouri State University Innovation Center in Cape Girardeau. Participants are encouraged to carry glow sticks, wear reflective clothing or bring small flashlights while running. Proceeds will benefit the Beacon Health Center, a child advocacy and adult sexual violence response center. Sam A. Baker wildflower hikes in April

Sam A. Baker State Park is featuring free wildflower hikes at the park at 10 a.m. Saturday and April 27.
