A free AARP Driver Safety class is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 9 at MoDOT's district office, located at 2675 North Main St. in Sikeston, Mo. The class is designed to be a refresher course for experienced drivers. The course will consist of video presentations, lectures and discussions with no tests. Sam A. Baker State Park "Keep Baker Beautiful Day"
Sam A. Baker State Park is having its "Keep Baker Beautiful Day" from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 4. Volunteers will help get the park ready for the busy summer season. Planned projects include planting, trail care, litter patrol and more. Participants will be given a free picnic lunch and a free day of camping to be used later. St. Francis to hold health and fitness presentation
Saint Francis Medical Center will present "Make the Rest of Your Life the BEST of Your Life!" for National Senior Health and Fitness Day from 10 a.m. to noon May 16 at the Health and Wellness Center conference rooms, 150 S. Mount Auburn Road. Dr. Ed Leoni will be a featured speaker and there will be a Las Vegas-themed health fair with free health screenings, games, exercise demonstrations, healthy snacks, door prizes and professionals to answer questions. SportsCare to host athletic injury screenings
Southeast SportsCare will provide free athletic injury screenings at HealthPoint Fitness from 7 to 9 a.m. Mondays beginning Monday. No appointment is necessary but evaluations are done on a first-come, first-served basis. Screenings will be performed by certified athletic trainers. For more information, call 986-6635.
Hardees planning Stars for Heroes campaign
Hardees is having its annual Stars for Heroes campaign, a program to assist military families and communities, through May 12. Customers are able to donate to military charities such as the American Red Cross, Dream Foundation and US Cares. In return for donations customers can receive more than $10 worth of restaurant coupons. Donations also can be made online at facebook.com/StarsforHeroes.
Stroke screening to be held
Saint Francis Medical Center is hosting a free community stroke screening 7 to 11 a.m. May 4 in the Saint Francis conference room. The free screening includes a stroke risk assessment, blood pressure and cholesterol test, and a consultation with a medical professional. For accurate results, a 10 to 12 hour fast is required. Participants should continue to take prescribed medications and drink water to avoid dehydration. Appointments are required. To register for the upcoming stroke screening, call 331-3996.
