Salvation Army serving Meals with Friends

The Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope St., will be serving a Meals with Friends from Monday through Friday. Monday will be ham, mashed potatoes, corn, fruit, bread and dessert. Tuesday will be turkey with noodles, green beans, bread, fruit and dessert. Wednesday will be shepherd pie, bread, fruit and dessert. Thursday's meal will be baked chicken, mashed potatoes, bread, fruit and dessert. Friday there will be spaghetti, corn, fruit and dessert. Items that are needed are paper products such as carry-out trays, plastic silverware, paper plates and aluminum foil. For more information, call 335-7000.

Book fair to be held at Jackson elementary

Jackson's Orchard Elementary is having a book fair from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through April 27. The school will host Family Night with guest appearances by Neal E. Boyd, Morgan and Caleb Strebler to promote literacy and to put on a free show Tuesday. The book fair will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. with the guest show starting at 5:30 p.m.

Southeast Cancer Center to host nutrition lecture

A presentation about nutrition during cancer treatment will be held Tuesday for cancer patients and their family members. The presentation by clinical dietitian Tricia Friess and supportive meeting will be held in the Southeast Cancer Center Unity Room at 789 S. Women in Agriculture holding Farm Day

Farm Day 2012 will be held Tuesday at the St. Lawrence Parish Center at New Hamburg, Mo. There will be a morning session from 9 until 11 a.m. and an afternoon session from noon until 2 p.m. Exhibits will include a puppet show presented by Kelly FFA, a presentation by Scott County 4-H, a presentation on ATV, helmet, grain bin and auger safety by Kelly FFA students through Monsanto, a presentation on corn by the Scott County Farm Bureau, a presentation on electric safety by SEMO Electric, and the Southwest Dairy Association from Texas will have a cow there to milk in front of the students.

Outback Steakhouse luncheon benefits program

On Wednesday, Outback Steakhouse in Cape Girardeau will have a special buffet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to benefit the Southeast Share Program. Proceeds from this annual luncheon support the Southeast Share Program, which cares for families who have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death. Tickets are $20 per person. Kow Pasture 2012 coming up

Schindler's Tavern, Kohlfeld Distributing, Stag/Pabst Brewing and Mike's Hard Lemonade are hosting the Kow Pasture 2012. Sign-up sheets are available from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Schindler's Tavern, 1029 Route A, Chaffee, Mo. Entry fee is $100 per team of four. Entry fee and registration required for tee time. Make all checks payable to Kenny Rogers Children's Center or the Missouri Veterans Home. All prepaid registrants receive a Kow Pasture Can Cooler and two free beverages. Proceeds benefit the Kenny Rogers Children's Center and the Missouri Veterans Home. At noon at The Avenue of Flags there will be a tribute to the military. Jackson schools holding Run/Walk for Wellness

Join the students, faculty, staff and community members in Jackson for the Run/Walk for Wellness: 5K or 1 mile at 8 a.m. Saturday at Jackson Junior High School. All proceeds will benefit Jackson School District's BackPacks for Friday Program. The cost of registration for the event is $25 for adults, $15 for children ages 6 to 18, and for ages under 6 it is free. Jackson Park Day set for Saturday

Jackson Park Day is scheduled for Saturday. The community clean up day will start at 8 a.m. at shelter No. 1 on Parkview Street in the City Park. All participants will be offered a T-shirt and lunch served 11 a.m. at no charge. This event is an opportunity for the community to help clean and beautify the park. Individuals and service groups are welcome. If interested and cannot attend Saturday, call Jackson Parks and Recreation at 204-8848 to help on other days or for more information.

Cape Parks' Friends of the Park Day scheduled for this week

Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the Friends of the Parks Day on Saturday. The event gives the Cape Girardeau community an opportunity to get outside and make their parks more beautiful. Groups such as Boy Scouts of America, the Missouri Conservation Department and local families will come together at Capaha Park to take part planting trees and flowers, water sealing benches, cleaning up fallen tree limbs and more. The event does not just encompass Capaha Park, though. Groups will travel everywhere from the Jaycee Municipal Golf Course to Arena Park to the riverfront. All participants will receive free T-shirts and a lunch provided by Schnucks. Anyone interested in participating can register by visiting cityofcapegirardeau.org/recreationevents and clicking on the group registration form. HealthPoint in Jackson to host health fair for children Saturday

Children will enjoy plenty of fun activities at the Kids Extravaganza! Health & Fitness Fair from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Southeast HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson. The event is free for children ages 2 to 12. The fair will have face painting and bounce houses, as well as hands-on nutrition and information on summer camps. HealthPoint Fitness to offer free self-defense sessions for women

A free self-defense class for women and girls 12 and older will be offered at HealthPoint in Jackson on Saturday. Three hourlong sessions will be held. The class will be offered at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. Black-belt instructor Doug Johnson of Moo Sul Kwan Martial Arts will conduct the sessions. Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably for movement. Call 243-2211 to register for the class.

SoutheastHEALTH to showcase services at Osage Centre expo

SoutheastHEALTH physicians, nurses and staff will offer information about health care services for babies, children and families at the ABC Expo from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau. Admission is $5.

Purple bows showing support in fight against cancer

SoutheastHEALTH and the American Cancer Society have partnered this month in connection with the Cape County Relay for Life. Purple bows -- in honor of those affected by cancer -- grace Southeast light poles including those at the Southeast Cancer Center, as well as homes and businesses. Businesses and residents can show their support by ordering purple bows to display. The 12-hour Relay for Life raises money to fight cancer and raises awareness of the services available through the Cancer Society. The 2012 event will be held from 5 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. April 29 at Arena Park.
