Start Smart Baseball offered in Cape Girardeau

Start Smart Baseball is a developmentally appropriate, introductory baseball program for children 3 to 5 years old, offered by Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from this week through May 8 at Arena Park. The program prepares children for organized tee ball, baseball and softball in a fun environment without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Registration cost is $30 for residents and $35 nonresident. Registration deadline is Wednesday.

Harmony Church is hosting Easter events

Harmony Church, six miles east of Marble Hill, Mo., on Highway 34, will be hosting an Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. April 7 with more than 13,000 eggs with special Resurrection eggs that teach children the message of Jesus Christ.

Harmony Church will be hosting an early Easter service at 6 a.m. April 8. Breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. Sunday school will be at 8:30 a.m. and worship service at 9 a.m. Everybody is welcome. For information or directions, call 573-238-4126.

First Pentecostal Church's Easter service

First Pentecostal Church of Cape, 3054 Lexington Ave., is celebrating Easter with Sunday school at 10 a.m., morning worship at 11 a.m. and an evening worship service at 6 p.m. There will be special music and a Easter message. After the kids sing in adult worship, they will participate in Bible Discovery with an egg hunt for ages 1 1/2 through 11 years at 11:30 a.m. Then at noon the whole congregation will assemble on the front lawn for Candy Rain. The kids gather by age groups with their empty bags ready and stand under a shower of pure candy to collect and take home.

St. Mary's Cathedral Holy Week schedule

The Rev. John V. Johnston Jr., bishop of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, will be at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau next week for the various Holy Week celebrations. He will be joined Monday evening at 7:30 by the priests of the eastern half of the diocese for the Mass of Chrism, during which the oils will be blessed for the coming year's use in the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders and the Anointing of the Sick. The schedule of events for Holy Week at St. Mary's is: Thursday, Mass of the Lord's Supper, 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Liturgy of the Lord's Passion, 1 and 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Easter Vigil, 7:30 p.m., and Easter Sunday Masses, 7, 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. In addition, Easter Sunday Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Old St. Vincent's Church.
