The Jackson Parks and Recreation Department is holding a Jackson Park Day beginning at 8 a.m. April 24. The Jackson Park Day will be a community cleanup day, and it will start at shelter No. 1 on Parkview Street in the main city park. All participants will receive a T-shirt and lunch that will be served at 11 a.m. Individuals and service groups are welcome. The Culpepper and Merriweather Great Combined Circus perform April 13 at Tiles Memorial City Park in Oran, Mo. The Optimist Club of Oran will sponsor the two performances at 5 and 7:30 p.m. The guest celebrity ringmaster for the early show will be Laura Wibbenmeyer of KFVS12, and Rick Sinclair of KWKZ FM radio will be the guest celebrity ringmaster for the second show. The Midway will open at 4 p.m. and will feature attractions including pony rides and concession trailers. Advanced tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for children ages 2 to 12. Advanced tickets can be purchased at Oran City Hall, Eftink Hardware, Chaffee Food Giant, Oran Kwik Stop, Morley Dent N Save, Benton Bestway, Morley Building Supply, Yvonne's Restaurant and Advance Town & Country Grocery.
An Alzheimer's community forum will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon April 5 at the Osage Community Centre. The Alzheimer's Association will host the forum to gather public input on issues and concerns related to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Findings will support final recommendations from the Missouri Alzheimer's disease State Plan Task Force due the Missouri Legislature and Gov. Jay Nixon in November. Those affected by Alzheimer's disease are invited to attend to share concerns about Alzheimer's care and support in Missouri. To register for the event, call 800-272-3900.
Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau will host a one-day simulcast from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 24. Bible teacher Beth Moore will host the women's simulcast and will speak about her new message "So Long Insecurity." The event is an opportunity for women to learn to conquer fear and doubt and discover the liberating confidence and security that can only be found in Jesus Christ. Tickets for this event will be $20 and include lunch. Tickets can be purchased at the Trinity church office at 100 N. Frederick St. or at Gospeland in West Park Mall.
