Chaffee General Baptist Spring Yard/Bake Sale

From 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31, the Chaffee General Baptist Fellowship Hall at Fifth and Helen streets in Chaffee, Missouri, will hold a spring yard and bake sale. Scholarship for high-school seniors offered

The Ruth A. Buckhannon Memorial RN Scholarship is being offered to a 2018 graduating senior of any Scott County public high school who plans to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

This is the twelfth year for this $4,000 scholarship.

Applications are available from Chaffee High School counselor Meleia Sides at (573) 887-3226 or the applicant's school counselor. Deadline is April 18.

Wallace scholarship established at Southeast

The Mildred Hendrick Wallace Endowed Scholarship has been established through the Southeast Missouri State University Foundation, according to a university news release.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hendrick of Plano, Texas, made a $20,000 gift to establish the award.

The renewable scholarship will be awarded to a returning non-traditional student enrolled at the university, attending the Cape Girardeau campus, whose education has been interrupted and finds it necessary to return to complete a degree that improves their marketable skills for employment. Financial need will be considered but is not required. Recipients must be in good academic standing with an overall minimum 2.0 grade point average. The University Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.

Alpha Xi Delta scholarship established at Southeast

Lisa Grimes of St. Louis and several of her sorority sisters made a gift to establish the Alpha Xi Delta scholarship through the Southeast Missouri State University Foundation, according to a university news release.

The total is a $3,400 match from the Foundation as part of its Greek scholarship matching gift program.

Eligible students will be a full-time junior or senior Southeast student who is also a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority.

The university scholarship committee in conjunction with Alpha Xi Delta alumni and the office of Greek Life will select the recipient.

Father/daughter, mother/son dance

The Jackson Senior Center, 2690 Travelers Way, will be hosting a father/daughter, mother/son dance April 7, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Music will be provided by the Southern Harmony Band. There will be a photo booth, and refreshments will be provided. For more information, phone 243-4241.

Active shooter training at Jackson

The Jackson Police Department will team up with the ALICE Training Institute of Medina, Ohio, to present a two-day shooter training course to Jackson on July 10-11. According to a news release, the course will be held at the Jackson Civic Center, 381 Deerwood Dr., in Jackson. It will teach proactive survival strategies for violent intruder or active shooter incidents. Price of the course is $595, and registration may be completed online at AliceTraining.com.
