St. Joseph Parish to host dinner

A chicken, dumpling and sausage dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph Parish, 138 St. Joseph Lane in Apple Creek. The all-you-can-eat buffet also includes dressing, homemade pie and bread. The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children and free for children 5 and younger.

Annual Lions Club Pancake Day to be held

The 79th annual Lions Club Pancake Day, the longest continuous running pancake event in the United States, will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the A.C. Brase Arena Building, 410 Kiwanis Drive in Cape Girardeau. Tickets cost $5 and include pancakes, milk and coffee. Juice, water and sausages will cost extra. All proceeds from this event go to charity.

Free lung cancer screening set

Saint Francis Medical Center will provide free lung cancer screenings to adults ages 50 to 74 who are heavy smokers, former smokers or otherwise at risk from noon to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at its Womancare clinic, 211 St. Francis Drive in Cape Girardeau. Nomination deadline for Calloway Award Friday

Nominations are being accepted for the 2017 DeVerne Lee Calloway Award, which is bestowed by the Missouri House of Representatives each year to a community woman who has made major contributions to equality and social justice for all Missourians. Any woman who has been nominated in the past but not selected as the honoree also is eligible.

Fish fry set for Scott City K of C

The Knights of Columbus Council 6420 will hold its weekly Lenten fish fry Friday at the hall, 28745 Highway 61 in Scott City. The dinners will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. every Friday through April 7. The menu will include all-you-can-eat catfish, fried chicken, baked beans, slaw, hush puppies, potato wedges and drinks. The cost is $11 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 11 and free for children 6 and younger.

Chaffee Elks Lodge to hold fish fry

The Chaffee Elks Lodge 1810 will hold a Lenten fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the lodge, 121 E. Yoakum Ave. in Chaffee, Missouri. The all-you-can-eat buffet, which will be held every Friday through April 14, will include chicken, sides and iced tea. The cost will be $11 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and younger.

Heartland Home and Garden Show to be held

The 2017 Heartland Home and Garden Show will be held Friday through Sunday at the Show Me Center, 1333 N. Sprigg St. in Cape Girardeau. Show hours will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and younger.

Reunion for Florsheim Shoe Factory workers

A reunion will be held for former Florsheim Shoe Factory workers at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Event Hall, 321 N. Spring St. in Cape Girardeau. Bring your own snacks, but drinks must be purchased on site. Donations will be taken at the door to help pay for the hall rental.

Emanuel United to mark 150th anniversary

Emanuel United Church of Christ will celebrate its 150th anniversary with an open house from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 26 at the church, 304 E. Adams St. in Jackson. Refreshments will be provided. As part of the celebration, there will also be an exhibit at the Cape County History Center, 102 S. High St. in Jackson.

Southeast Hospital College to hold 5K run

Southeast Hospital College of Nursing and Health Sciences will host a 5K and 1-mile run at Arena Park on April 8. The entry fee is $20 per person with a T-shirt and $15 without. Raise the Woof set for April 22

The Humane Society of Southeast Missouri will present the Raise the Woof dinner and comedy show on April 22 at Lawless Harley Davidson, 2100 E. Outer Road in Scott City. Milk Mustache Dash to be held April 29

The Jackson R-2 School District will host the Milk Mustache Dash, a 5K and 1-mile run/walk, on April 29 at the Jackson Middle School, 1651 W. Independence St. in Jackson.

Registration will be held from 7 to 7:30 a.m. before the race, which begins at 8 a.m. Cost of advance registration, which must be completed by April 5, is $30 for adults and $10 for ages 18 and younger. Cost includes a T-shirt (There is a $5 additional charge for extra-large sizes). All proceeds benefit the Jackson R-2 Backpack for Friday Program, which provides weekend meals to students in need. Cape Shrine Club to host scramble at Bent Creek
