SoutheastHEALTH is holding a lifesaver class for new parents from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Southeast Hospital meeting room 105. The class helps participants recognize, prevent and respond to life-threatening situations and covers infant CPR and response to a choking infant. SoutheastHEALTH is holding childbirth preparation class from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Harrison Room. The class addresses the emotional and physical changes of pregnancy, the normal labor process, common instances requiring intervention, vaginal and caesarean delivery, coping techniques for natural labor and pain control options. Other topics include the physical changes that follow delivery and normal newborn adjustment. This class will be taught by a nurse at Southeast. Guardian Angel Catholic Church is hosting its annual spring dinner from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at the Oran Knights of Columbus Hall. The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will hold a 5k training course for runners of all levels beginning next month. Sessions are 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday from April 1 to May 22 at the Central Junior High School track. The course gives participants the opportunity to get in shape, gain cardiovascular endurance and improve running form. The sessions will consist of cardio training information, stretching, strengthening, speed workouts and tempo runs. The class is open to 25 participants. Registration is required and costs $32 per person until March 27. Entry forms may be picked up at the Arena Building, Shawnee Park Center or Osage Centre. Striking a Balance, a six-week free walking program, begins this Thursday. The program is scheduled for 10 to 11:15 a.m., every Thursday at Fitness Plus, Conference Rooms 1 and 2. There will be four special sessions during the program.
