Screening and enrollment for Oran kindergarten

Kindergarten enrollment for the 2012-2013 school year will be conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Parents must first contact the Oran Elementary office at 573-262-3435 to set up an appointment. To enroll for this school year, the child must be 5 years old by Aug. 1. Parents are reminded that children entering kindergarten need to have their last set of shots before school begins. The child's updated shot records, along with a copy of the certified birth certificate or hospital records and their Social Security card need to be brought to the enrollment.

Connection Point Church hosting World Day of Prayer

Connection Point Church, 1506 S. Farmington Road in Jackson, is hosting a celebration of the World Day of Prayer at 1 p.m. Friday in the worship center. (Enter the third driveway onto church property and go down the hill to the main entrance.) Special features of the program will include guest speaker George Joseph, who grew up in Malaysia and will discuss the current events of his country. The afternoon program will also include special music, congregational singing, Scripture reading and prayers. Refreshments and a social hour will follow the program. Seabee 70th anniversary plaque dedication set

The local Seabee Chapter Island 5 would like to extend an invitation to all Seabee veterans, active military, military veterans and the public to attend the dedication of a bronze Seabee plaque in recognition of the 70th anniversary. The dedication will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cape County Park North veterans memorial site. There will be guest speakers and the recognitions of Seabees who served in World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Zalma Baptist Church hosting silent auction

Zalma General Baptist Church is hosting its sixth annual special-needs dinner/silent auction Saturday at the Zalma General Baptist Church's gymnasium. Dinner is from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., and the silent auction is from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Children 5 and younger are free, ages 5 to 12 is $4 and ages 13 and up is $6. 'Tour for a Cure' hosted to help fight against cancer

The American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, in conjunction with the Jackson Heritage Association and Glenn House Historical Society present the first "Tour for a Cure." Visitors to the Oliver House or Glenn House from 1 to 4 p.m. March 4 will be able to tour these historical landmarks for $10 per person.
