Friends of the Library to hold spring book sale

Friends of the Library will host the annual spring book sale at the Cape Girardeau Public Library on the following dates.

* 6 to 8 p.m. Friday

* 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday

* 1 to 5 p.m. March 3

Hundreds of items will be on sale. Hardcover books are available for $1 each, paperbacks for 50 cents and books-on-tape and videos for $2. All proceeds benefit library projects sponsored by the Friends Foundation.

Parks and Recreation Sign-Up Saturday

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is holding Sign-Up Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 9 at the Osage Centre. Sign up for classes and special events offered by the department, Lazy L Safari Park and others. For more information, call 339-6340.

Zalma General Baptist to hold dinner, auction

Zalma General Baptist Church is hosting its annual dinner and silent auction from 3 to 7 p.m. March 2 at the church gym. Chili, soup, hot dogs, desserts and drinks will be served. Cost is $6 for adults, $4 for children 5 to 12 and free for children 4 and under. The proceeds will help those in need throughout the year. For more information, call 573-722-5721.

'Living Well with Chronic Conditions' workshop

Anyone with a chronic condition or a family member or caretaker of a person with a chronic condition is invited to attend "Living Well with Chronic Conditions." The free workshop is scheduled from 1 to 3:30 p.m. every Tuesday from Feb. 26 through April 2 at Abbey Road Christian Church in Cape Girardeau. The course will cover the following:

* Designing your own self-management program

* How to manage your symptoms

* Medication "how-to"

* How to relax and handle difficult emotions

* How to work with your doctor

* Tips for eating well and exercising

Southeast women's basketball Pink Up Night

The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks women's annual Pink Up Night will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday against Tennessee Tech at the Show Me Center. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. A portion of the proceeds will go toward Saint Francis Medical Center's Dig for Life charity that provides mammograms to women in need. There will be a reception before the game at 5 p.m. in the Show Me Center meeting rooms. The reception is free with admission and will include a wine tasting by Primo Vino, appetizers, chair massages and more. The game also will honor seniors.

Activities set for Eating Disorders Awareness Week

Southeast Missouri State University is hosting several activities for Eating Disorders Awareness Week Monday through Saturday.

* Monday: Travis Stewart will present "Eating Disorders: Ask the Expert" from 5 to 6 p.m. at Glenn Auditorium of Dempster Hall.

* Tuesday: Several individuals who have overcome eating disorders will sit in on the "Eating Disorders Recovery Panel" from 6 to 7 p.m. at Glenn Auditorium.

* Wednesday: There will be a screening of "The Brain and Food: Secrets of Your Mind" from noon to 1:15 p.m. at Glenn Auditorium.

* Thursday: There will be back-to-back presentations, "Guys Have Eating Disorders, too!" and "Body Image: It's Time to Talk About It" from 5 to 7:50 p.m. at Crisp Hall, Room 125.

* Saturday: A 5K walk/run at 9 a.m. at Arena Park Pavillion No. 1.

Riverside Regional Library receives funds

The office of Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander announced Riverside Regional Library of Scott County, Mo., received $10,601.90 in service and programming funds. The funds may be used to meet needs such as library collection, equipment, database licenses, technology, capital improvements and other service enhancements.
