Women and Heart Disease Seminar set Tuesday

The Women and Heart Disease Seminar is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Cape Primary Care, 1702 N. Kingshighway. Dr. Victoria E. Adjovu and Dolores J. McDowell, both of Saint Francis Medical Center, will be presenting on heart disease. The seminar will give information about risk factors, treatments and other facets of heart disease. Saint Francis offering free screenings in February

Saint Francis Medical Center is offering free heart and health screenings from 7 to 10 a.m. every Wednesday in February at the Saint Francis Health and Wellness Center. Free screenings include the following measurements: blood pressure, total cholesterol, HDL/LDL, triglycerides, cardiac risk assessment and glucose for diabetes. For accurate results, a 10- to 12-hour fast is required. Medications may be taken with water during fasting. Appointment times are limited and may be reserved by calling 331-3996.

Prehistoric Playday set for Thursday

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is hosting Prehistoric Playday from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau. The cost is $9 for Cape Girardeau residents and $10 for nonresidents. Parents and children ages 3 to 5 can have fun with games and activities while learning about dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. For more information, call 339-6730. Perkins Fire Department to hold breakfast

The Perkins Volunteer Fire Department is hosting the 29th annual Whole Hog Sausage Breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. Feb. 23 at the Perkins Fireman Hall. The menu will include sausage, pancakes, eggs, biscuits and gravy and more. A 32-inch flat screen television will be given away.

Guardian Angel Catholic Church to hold breakfast

Guardian Angel Catholic Church of Oran is serving breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 17 at the Guardian Angel School gym. The menu will include sausage, ham, eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy. Homemade cinnamon rolls also will be available for take-home purchase. Proceeds will benefit the church's charitable activities. The cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and under.

Monthly dance to be held on Thursday

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will hold a monthly dance from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday at the Arena Building. Cost is $4 and concessions will be available. Country Generation will provide music and Mary Pensel will teach a new dance. For more information, call 339-6340.

First Assembly of God to hold fish fries

Scott City First Assembly of God Church will host an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday through the first four Fridays in Lent. The church will serve fried fish, potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw, hush puppies and coffee or tea. The cost is $8.50 for adults, $4.50 for children ages 6 to 11 and free for children 5 and under. Kenny Rogers Children's Center Telethon Idol set for Saturday

Kenny Rogers Children Center is hosting the annual Telethon Idol singing competition at 11 a.m. Saturday at the J.C. Penney court of West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau. Registration is $10 and open to all ages. Contestants are asked to bring a photo of themselves. Winners will sing at the Kenny Rogers Center Telethon on March 16.
