The annual Clingingsmith-Craft family reunion is scheduled for noon today at the Knights of Columbus Hall lower level at Highway 61 North in Jackson. It will begin with a basket dinner, and all relatives and friends are invited.
A softball tournament to benefit Brayden Deckerd of Perryville, Mo., will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the men and women's softball fields in Perryville City Park. Brayden, the son of Dustin Deckerd and Kelsey Schaper, is 14 months old and was diagnosed with sarcoma cancer this year. There is a $125 entry fee with a three-game guarantee, and all proceeds will go to Brayden Deckerd. Only ASA bats will be used, and teams should bring their own 44-ounce ball. The annual picnic at the Whitewater Presbyterian Church in Bollinger County will be Saturday. The air-conditioned, homestyle buffet serving begins at 3:30 p.m. and includes kettle beef, chicken and dumplings, fried chicken and sides. The cost of the buffet is $9 for adults, $3.50 for ages 12 and under and children under 6 eat free. The picnic will offer live music, silent auction, crafts, turtle races, quilt raffle, children's games, ice cream, hamburgers and more. To reach the picnic, take I-55 Exit 117 on to Route KK and go west for about 11 miles, then turn right on County Road 256 and go 1 mile to the church.
Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church will hold vacation Bible school from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for students entering first through sixth grades. The theme is Mega Sports Camp, where campers will learn how to rely on Jesus and break free. The program will include football, basketball, soccer, cheerleading and Wiffle ball. A safe place for adults to come together to share their grief following the death of a loved one is scheduled from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at HealthPoint in Cape Girardeau. A childbirth preparation class is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Harrison Room at Southeast Hospital. The class will address issues such as the emotional and physical changes of pregnancy and the normal labor process.
