The Heartland Pops 2012 Christmas Show will be at 3 p.m. Dec. 2 at in the Jackson High School Auditorium. Featured performers include the 18-voice Pops Chorus and the 20-piece band, Leopold Concert Choir and the Immaculate Conception Church Choristers. Guest narrator will be KZIM's Faune Riggin. The Jackson Kiwanis Club will host its third annual 5K Run/Walk on Nov. 10 at Orchard Elementary School, 1402 Orchard Drive in Jackson. Proceeds will go to the following children's projects: Elks Christmas baskets, Jackson Police Department Annual Toy Drive, Orchard Elementary School programs and more. New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau will be hosting installation services for pastor-elect the Rev. Joseph Cotton. Services will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday on the campus at 1029 S. Benton St. The formal installation service will be at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 11.
The Mound City National Cemetery will honor American veterans by hosting "Wreaths Across America" at 11 a.m. Nov. 15 at Old U.S. Highway 51, Mound City, Ill. Organizers will be placing seven ceremonial wreaths to remember all who served and sacrificed. Specially designed wreaths for each service branch and POW/MIA will be placed on memorials during a ceremony. Wreath sponsorships are $15 each and are available until Nov. 26. The Missouri Academy of Family Physicians is seeking nominees for "Missouri Family Physician of the Year." Nominations may be made by the public and physicians. Big River Telephone is hosting its ninth annual Holiday Turkey Drive through Dec. 21. Donation vouchers may be picked up at Schnucks and the Big River Telephone office in Cape Girardeau. The voucher and a $10 donation can be used at Schnucks when checking out. Donations benefit the Salvation Army to provide meals to local families in need during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Big River will also donate $2 for every "like" on its Facebook page, www.facebook.com/bigrivertelephone.

Several area businesses will be collecting items for a Soldier Stocking Drive through Nov. 24. Organizers hope to collect items to fill 100 stockings for the 1138th Engineer Company deployed in Afghanistan. Items requested include snacks, drinks, toiletries and personal entertainment items.
