Singers are invited to join the Messiah Choir, a regional group that will perform selections from the work of Georg Frideric Handel in January. Missionfest is scheduled for 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau. Missionfest is an opportunity to learn about mission organizations locally and abroad. Admission is free. The worship service features speaker John Volinski from WorldVision. All are invited to bring new or used shoes for The Shoeman, who will collect and send them to countries in need. Funds raised will help provide wells to countries in need of clean water. Hope Seeds will provide opportunities for attendees to package region-appropriate seeds to send with missionaries to foreign countries. First Assembly of God of Scott City is hosting a fish fry to benefit the Women's Club Christmas giving project from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. The church is at 312 Dearborn St., in Scott City. The meal includes fried fish, potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw, hush puppies, coffee and tea. The cost is $8.50 for adults, $4.50 for children age 6 to 11, and children younger than 5 eat for free. The Red Cross in Cape Girardeau is hosting a Halloween open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct 28 at 2430 Myra Drive. The event is open to Red Cross volunteers and the public to give an overview of the organization's services with a Halloween theme. Topics include reviving a zombie with CPR/First Aid; make your disaster kit for the zombie apocalypse; donating blood; and how to shelter and feed a ghost population through volunteering.
