Jackson Choir Fest benefits food pantry

St. Paul Lutheran Church will host the Jackson Choir Fest at 4 p.m. today to help benefit the Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry. St. Paul's choir as well as choirs from churches throughout the area will come together to sing their favorite hymns.

St. Lawrence holds dinner, country store

St. Lawrence Church will host a spring dinner from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 18 at the St. Lawrence Parish Center in New Hamburg, Mo. The dinner will feature fried chicken, dressing, chicken and dumplings, buttered potatoes, slaw, corn, drink and dessert. Dinners for adults will be $8, $4 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 years old and younger.

Boy Scouts troop selling barbecue

Boy Scout Troop 4 is having a barbecue dinner from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 18 in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau. Cost for the dinner is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Carry-out meals will also be available. Pork will be for sale for $8 a pound or whole butts for $30. To preorder, contact Shirley Sullivan at 382-0495 or Will Bahn at 450-7976. The money raised will be used for the Scouts to attend summer camp.

Safe Harbor offering obedience classes

Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary will be offering canine obedience classes. The first session will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. The classes will include six weeks of instructions. The classes are open to all dogs that are at least 6 months old. Handlers can be any age, although minors must have parental permission. Classes cost $45 for dogs adopted through shelters or rescues, $65 for altered dogs and $95 for unaltered dogs. All dogs available at Safe Harbor are free of charge. Saxony hosts spring gala dinner, auction

Saxony Lutheran High School in Jackson will host a spring gala dinner and auction at 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $30 per person or $225 per table. Tickets are available for purchase at the school office. To donate to the silent or public auction, call the school office at 204-7555. Doors open at 4 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6.

SADI offers two presentations

The SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence in Cape Girardeau will host two presentations April 22. The "Outreach to Unserved and Underserved Population" presentation will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The "Nursing Home Transition" will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Both presentations are free and open to anyone 18 years old and older.
