Denim Day observance seeks to raise awareness of sexual assault

Missouri state officials will wear blue jeans Thursday in a symbolic protest against sexual assault and the myths that surround violence against women. The April 23 protest will be part of Denim Day, an internationally recognized campaign to reduce sex crimes by urging everyone to take a public stand against rape. Students, workers and civic and business leaders across Missouri will participate in Denim Day by wearing jeans and pledging to support local rape-awareness organizations. Junior track and field event open for registration

Registration for the 20th annual Hershey's Track & Field Local Meet has begun. Boys and girls ages 9 to 14 may compete in three events including dashes, runs and relays, standing long jump and softball throw. The meet, held by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, will be at 5 p.m. May 21 at the Central Junior High School track. Cost for the meet is $3 per child. Each entrant must participate in three events with a maximum of two track events. Winners will advance to the state meet June 26 in Jefferson City, Mo.
